Upon rediscovering the land of Kunark, we see that some of the lands have been renamed (or perhaps given their orignal times, as they were called in the first days of Venril Sathir). We see the Kylong Plains, the Jarsath Wastes, the Fens of Nathsar, the Kunzar Jungle..

It seems these are named after the original tribes of the iksar, the ones we know of being the Kunzar, the Jarsath, the Kylong, the Nathsar, the Obulus, and the Sorriz. Do we know anything about these tribes what little the sources used in the Archive of Ik were able to dig up? Is there a cultural history involved in these tribes? Why have lands been renamed to them? Also, some of these lands seem misplaced. For instance, Veksar, of the Lake of Ill Omen, belonged to the Kylong, but now the areas around it are called the Fens of Nethsar..

Is there any lore regarding the places now, and the tribes of then? What of these tribes? Is there any semblence of them? Practices kept by the remnents of their people in the Sathir Empire? Natural affinities towards magic/spirits/physical prowess that each tribe excelled in?

I'm guessing that each area was renamed by the Iksar for the tribe that mainly lived in each land, according to it's current physical layout.

The Rending did quite a number on Kunark, and Veksar is lost for good. it's artifacts are washing up on the shores of the Lake of Ill Omen, but it's nowhere to be found. It may have belonged to the Kylong 1000 years ago, but now, who knows how far it's shifted.

If I had to guess, Frontier Mountains and Warslik Woods would probably be named after the Sorriz Tribe, only because Sorriz sounds better than Obulus. Unfortunatly, the developers stated in beta that we won't be seeing those areas return.

The Archives of Ik would better explain what was known about the tribes before they were united together. I know the Swifttail Clan emerged from one of them. I know a couple of them were extremely skilled in magics, while others excelled in physical combat and weaponsmithing. Others had thier own attributes that contributed to the Iksar empire. I think one of them excelled at trade.

Heh, should have figured I'd have to go include this

As I said, I'm looking for more than what Dreyco and Khelisk (was that it? Hard to remember back to FV days.. ) found about the original tribes. What they do have is listed below:

KOTIZ, ZUMAIK, VERIX KYLOX--THE KYLONG MASTERSAs the Kunzar marched upon Kunark, the Kylong tribe's three archmages met in their capital of Veksar: the necromancer Kotiz, the shaman Verix Kylox, and the enchanter Zumaik. There they broke the sacred Kylong Medallion into three, and each carried their piece away to be hidden from the Kunzar. Kotiz fled to ancient Kaesora to claim the Unholy Book of War, which would allow him to retaliate upon the Kunzar. Venril Sathir pursued, and struck down Kotiz in his moment of triumph. Sathir took the Unholy Book and left to retake command of his armies. The Kylong fragment is rumored to be lost in the dust and decay of Kaesora.Verix Kylox journeyed to the Dreadlands, but was captured by the expanding Kunzar armies. The shaman resisted the Kunzar and was locked away for many years, concealing the nature of the fragment he hid on his person. He eventually died in the dungeons of Castle Karnor, and as with all those whose bodies remained there, we can assume that Kylox now belongs to the undead legions of the Lich Venril. Kylox's fragment of the medallion is likely in Karnor with him.Zumaik the heretic Enchanter disappeared for many years, but Kylong documents recovered from Veksar indicate that he left in the direction of what is now the Burning Woods. There is a good chance that his fragment of Kylong is in the hands of the Sarnak or Dragonkind.THE JARSATH CHIEFTAIN?The savage Jarsath, isolated to crude island homes on the islands of Timorous Deep, had no written records or apparent organization of rank. It is guessed that there may have been a single tribe chieftan or one for each of the Jarsath occupied islands, but it seems just as likely that these Iksar were entirely uncivilized and lived almost as beasts in the wild. The Jarsath, like the Kylong, possessed a sacred and powerful medallion, but were careless with it and did not entrust it to anyone in particular. Venril Sathir, disgusted with the primitive ways of the Jarsath, destroyed the medallion and had its pieces scattered across Kunark.SLIXIN KLEX--THE ELDER OF OBULUSThe Obulus were a strange tribe, devoted to the spirits of earth and nature, and chief among them was Slixin Klex. The Obulus were eradicated in the meteor fall that created the Burning Woods, and thus we know little else about them. Our records consist only of the lamentations of Klex himself, who now haunts the woods in a state of eternal undeath.NATHSAR CHIEFTAIN?While the Kunzar scouts reported encountering Iksar claiming to belong to the Nathsar tribe, the tribe itself was never found. Aside from various artifacts bearing the markings of a Nathsar tribe, we know nothing about their ways or their leaders.SSRAESZHA--THE SORRIZ GODWhile little is known of the cursed Sorriz tribe before the Age of the Snake, we know them well now as the Snake-worshippers, those who surrendered themselves almost fetishistically to Shissar rule and sacrifice. They regard the King Snake as their god and king, and we regard them as blasphemers, cowards, and trash to be spit upon.VENRIL SATHIR--THE KUNZAR WARCHIEFLegend has it that Venril Sathir was never a broodling, but was somehow "Born a Master at Arms". According to the same legends, Venril assumed control of the Kunzar Tribe at an early age by slaying his father, and assuming his place as Chieftain (as was the custom). In his capacity as Chieftain, Sathir began his quest for power and knowledge, aware of the many Draconic and Shissarian secrets lost and hidden around Kunark. He lead armies far and wide in the search of books and artifacts. In his late youth, Sathir encountered the Kylong master Kotiz in the depths of ancient Kaesora. Sathir struck Kotiz down and took from him the legendary Unholy Book of War penned by the heretic Zebuxoruk. Learning from the dark secrets in the book, Venril Sathir's command of tactics became supreme, and his power over the divine art of Necromancy grew exponentially. Venril was no longer a mere mortal..

It's been a while, so I could be mistaken, but I believe the events surrounding the part of the Kylong was released when Veksar was opened up. Most of what you see above is inference and assumption based on what was (or in some cases, was not) in game. As I said, the Lake of Ill Omen, as well as Kaesora seem to have been controlled by the Kylong, yet we see that the Lake is now in the Fens of Nathsar, so I don't think it was named after tribe that occupied it. Also, the above states that the Jarsath tribe occupied the islands of the Timorous Deep, though honestly, I'm not entirely sure where the source of this is. We truly know very, very little about the tribes before Sathir took over.

Also, in regards to the above it says that the Book of War was penned by Zeboxoruk, and that he learned necromancy from it. I could be wrong, but necromancy really doesn't seem like Zeb's thing.

As with a few other things in the Archive of Ik, it would be really nice to learn the sources of this information.

In Protector's Realm some NPC says something about the 4 tribes of the Iksar, rather than however many I remembered from EQ1. Am I misinterpreting/misremembering what he said?
