Four friends are gonna play EQ2.One will be a Conjurer. (Mage in eq)One will be a healer (Cleric in eq)One will be tank (tried everything in eq)One will be DPS. (pally and zerker in eq)Casual play for awhile then raiding once real life settles.Question is; in your opinion, what is best group make up for us?

Based on those:Conjurer (or Illusionist if you wanted to try something else)Warden/FuryBerzerkerSwash/BrigandThe Rogue could be replaced with a Warlock (since you're in a group and might be doing a lot of group killing) or a Dirge/Troubador since they help a group more than basically other class.

i would choose

Conjuror (or wizard)

Mystic (this is the cleric i think in eq2, but if you want alot of good healing, go warden)

Guardian (great tank)

Ranger (nice dps, or you can choose swashie)

We had discussed:Conjurer, Mystic, Pally and Ranger (maybe switch mystic to druid so cloth, leather, chain, plate)orConjurer, Mystic, Rogue, Monk We just want the right make up that we have no problems later. Only class really set is the Mage.I appreciate the comments and welcome more input.

Sounds as you want to start on the good side As long as you do groups mostly, for tank guardian is a real good choice, as he has some nice mitigation. Berserker would be a good choice to deal some nice damage while tanking, and pally for added heals.Healers: Mystic is a good choice for debuffs and wards, druids also offer nice abilities as ports once you are lvl 25+ and either group invis (fury) or evac (warden). Templar is also a nice choice if you go for plate tank, if you choose monk better go for mystic (wards are great for avoidance based tanks) or any druid.Mage: Conjuror can do some nice dps as well, he also gets the Call of Hero ability on higher level which is good to have when needed. If you still think about different mage classes, enchanter also helps on dps and with mana regen as well as with mezzes. Warlock goes for nice encounter dps and wizard for single target, both can port to some places. Scout: All can evac, so that is np at all. Swashie and ranger both do some nice dps, swashbuckler mostly by hitting from behind but also can take over on tankage for a bit. Ranger is good on ranged dps as you sure know already. Bard classes are great for utility, dirge supports the meleers while troubadur makes casters stronger, they both help on mana regen.Whatever you choose, make sure that you all go for classes you love to play, a group of 4 can be made out of all classes available

The Monk tanks fine in groups (he/she/it will probably end up as a damage dealer on raids since too many players have a phobia about monks tanking -- monks use avoidance rather than mitigation for damage reduction and can suffer extreme damage spikes if the RNG is being nasty).

I would give a slight nod to a swashbuckler over a ranger for the group stealth, but that is minor.

Also, the pally might be overkill for a foursome with a mystic (fights will go a bit faster with the monk). With the pally, I might favor the druid, who can act as damage dealer and secondary healer (letting the paladin use self-healing to augment aggro generation). however, again it's a minor issue.

I would say both are perfectly fine and (as was said above) playing classes you enjoy is more important than optimizing group performance given your original objectives.

So we went with Monk, druid (Warden I think), conjurer & swash and we tore queens colony apart without the conjurer, he has been there already and is waiting for us. I know that isn't a hard thing to do but we sure enjoyed it.Everyone seemed to enjoy their class. Question is, will we be ok at higher levels or should I, the monk, level an alt tank just in case? We will probably start our own guild, always have.We have considerable raiding exp, in EQ, both together and apart.
