View Full Version : Good job with dungeon exp. Now you need to look at dungeon loot and mobs.

Okay ~ people complained that exp for grouping sucked, which it did.

Kudos to the devs for quickly working on this.

The next issue, however, and it's something I think more people will realise as they start grouping, is a severe lack (or rarity) of nameds in non-instanced dungeons.

Karnors - well, we shrugged our shoulders at this, since it's an easy zone. Then the legendary drops we got in Chardok were mediocre; and the only master in an evening there was off trash.

But the real letdown was Sebilis. Lower Sebilis, based on the mob level, is meant to be endgame heroic content (still too easy since we cleared it without even a full group of 80s but that's another issue). We fought to the fungus caves half hoping for a Myconid Spore King and what we got was a dull cave of 15 trash mobs with no obvious placeholder. In fact, a complete trawl of the bottom of Sebilis twice showed a total of zero nameds, and maybe two possible placeholders. The thing is, the instance there by comparison is an absolute loot-fest, with 2 legendary items per named and about 8 nameds.

In my opinion, contested content should generally offer better loot than instanced content, particularly when it comes to masters. Moreover, hard content should offer better loot than easy content (e.g. Crypt vs Lower Sebilis). But it seems in RoK this simply isn't the case. Not only do Jarsath Wastes instances offer 3 fabled rewards (and the rather easy Drusilla drops fabled loot), but if you want to go after masters instances are the way to go too.

Once again the expansion is headed towards empty dungeons and farmed instances, much as CMM went underused whilst people ran OOB and CoV ad nauseum. Considering the effort that's clearly gone into Karnors, Chardok and Sebilis this is a crying shame. I can only assume the heroic questlines end in some rewards as an alternative to nameds dropping loot; but this is a poor substitute with no longevity. Once I finish a heroic line, who go back to a dungeon with crappy master drop rates and contested spawns (well, if there's anyone bothering to contest them)?

On a final note, and getting back to that notion of difficulty - assuming there's an upgrade to the nameds / drops in lower sebilis, the difficulty needs upping too. The 86^^^ mobs were kinda trivial with one healer, and there's no need for CC with careful pulling. The game needs a small percent of "omg, that's almost impossible!" heroic content, and RoK isn't delivering. Alternatively if (as I suspect) Maiden's Chamber is meant to be the heroic endgame, it really needs looking at too. It's too short, too easy unless you're an idiot, and even if you are the spoilers on the mobs will trivialise them because once you have the strategy a poor execution will still work. It's great to see a surge is players when the expansion launches, but I'm worried about the longevity for non-raiders.
