Gah! In the update today, there was a change with the UI so that when you press ESC it will open the EQ2 Menu... if there is nothing else to do.

My problem is that I am an ESC key junkie. If I have windows or functions open I will just start hitting the ESC a bunch of times until they disappear... most often too many times. Needless to say, I now get the EQ2 Menu popping up... then I will click it too many times to close it. It's a vicious cycle.

So... can I disable it? I looked through options a bit, but couldn't really find what I was looking for. Maybe a way to remap the key not to do it?

Thanks in advance!

yah can we either get a way to disable this "feature" or have it removed?

I checked the options in game and there seems to be no key assigned for this feature.

It's rather annoying.

Options -> Controls -> Window Keys -> Game Menu = Escape No more menu.

I did what I said and it only ever pops up if I press ESC while casting a spell.

There is a facility to map a key for opening the EQII menu, so I don't understand why the Escape key has been arbitrarily assigned to it. Having that menu open every time I press Escape is extremely annoying.

If you don't like or can't get working the already listed solutions, you can also clear the binding that causes the menu to appear and use the other bindings that do the same thing. IE In Options -> Controls -> Command Keys, there is a binding called Cancel Spell Cast / Cancel Target / Close Top Window. This will open up the EQ2 menu. In Options -> Controls -> Window Keys you can find a binding called Close top window. In Options -> Controls -> Targeting Keys you can find a binding called Deselect. In Options -> Controls -> Spell Keys, you can find a binding called Cancel Casting. These key bindings will not open the EQ2 menu.

The update notes say that the Escape key will open the EQII window if there's nothing else for it to do, but no matter what else it's supposed to do (close the window, cancel casting, etc.) it's opening anyway. I tried the above and it solved that problem but caused a multitude of others, because opening the Options menu immediately causes everything to return to the defaults. What I don't understand is why this was implemented in the first place. We have the option to bind a key to that window, but it's not a window that needs to be opened for anything - I doubt if I open it as often as once a week - so why would we continually want it opening? Pressing Escape again doesn't close it either. It's really frustrating.

I honestly thought this was a mistake.Sad to see it was intentional. VERY annoying and NO clue why this was done.

Its like SoE makes changes just for the sake of making changes. Cant see the logic behind this one.

I havn't played since this change was made but can see it beeing an extreme problem:Example:When running off a mob I havn't engaged, hitting "!" yell does nothing - it says "You have not engaged,..." To "yell off" an encounter you havn't engaged you have to press "ESC" then "yell".How now do I yell off mobs I havn't engaged???

This is the macro I use.: ; pet backoff ; autoattack 0 ; target_self: ; yell: ; target_previousThis will call off your pet, stop autoattack, and yell for all encounters with one button.Othesus - Dirge - Lucan DLereVaspar - Fury - Lucan DLere
