Hello to all fellow anorexic death dealers, have recently moved from EQ1 and loving my Necro I rolled and have just gone to level 24. Looking for any advice on a few things that I have been wondering about, do here goes....

Buying Adept 3's/Masters

Have read that if I am going to spend my hard earned meagre plat on spell upgrades then it is best to purchase the pet and self buffs. For info I am a more soloing Necro then group orientated and I know that the Necro's pet is everything! Having just acquired Undying Adherent is it worth the mass of gold for Adept 3 in it, or is there a level that when I ding I can choose a one off master spell and so should hold off from buying atm as it will strip me out if I did. Finally worked out the difference between caster and tank pet lol, wondered why my caster was dying so fast. I am right in assuming that caster pet is good for a group situation and tank pet good for soloing?

Heal Bones

I find this spell next to useless as the amount it actually heals in relation to the total hitpoints my tank pet has is almost negligable. Is this designed this way or am I missing something. This may lead onto my next query....tainted heals.....

AA choices?

I am seriously thinking about redoing my AA's all over with the one off option and placing them in manipulation line to get Tainted Heals as I have read this is ideal for soloing Necro's. So far they are spread across a mix of stamina line, warlock pet damage absorption and a few others...any advice?

Stategies I have found

Ok, have learnt how to pet pull, ie target mob/set pet on it/summon pet/tell pet to back off then get mob to come to me.

Also I have tried chaining mob, dotting it then rechaining it. I do find the enchain spell wears off very quickly and if I get one resist then its shadow slip or get the pet on fast. Is it worth using caster pet when chaining and dotting or is it best to keep tank pet up?

Clinging death shows an effect as slows mob by x% - is this its movement speed or its attack speed? Are there any spells/abilities that slows a mobs attack speed at around my level.

I find when engaging a mob, I send in pet and quickly bang out swarm of rats, withering coil and clinging darkness as blight takes a while to cast. I then do my heroic arcane and set that off. and if I go from rotten blast to rotten blast I do a repair bones or lifetap waiting for it to refresh. Is it worth attempting the splitpaw saga quest and gaining faction with the splitpaws to get my level 20 word of force spell?

Any other hints or strats u may use would be greatly appreciated.

Deity

Have read up and done Believe In Me quest thus getting my alter to the Great Berty God. Now I understand that by sacrificing items I get favour points with which I can buy blessings and miracles which are additional spells. So far I have a choice of 2 and know I have to do levels and quests to open others. If I choose one and use it, does the spell like disappear and I have to earn points again to repurchase it, or does it stay with me for ever? or is it a case of only ever having one miracle and one blessing running at the same time?

So far am questing between BBM/Nek Forest and a bit in other areas. Any suggestions to other areas that are good for a necro or are they much the sameness with no one zone being better than another?

Any advice or links to forum areas that answer these trivial questions muchly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Keep those mobs rotting, yours,

Ruts

Buying AD3/M1Harvest, harvest, harvest. Take the time to get your harvesting skill up, and mine every node you come across as you hunt. You'll get raws that sell well on the broker, rares that you can use for gear or sell on the broker, and palladium clusters that you can have spells made from. Ask in your 20_29 channel for any sages looking for work, expect to pay 2-5g to the sage to have your spells made.First spell to upgrade is your tank pet. You'll never have a pet as a master choice, so get it up to AD3 as soon as possible.Second spell to upgrade is your pet's defensive stance. This is an M2 choice in many tiers, so check eq2.wikia.com and see what your master choices are.Third spell to upgrade is your lifetap. This will be a MAJOR source of your dps, and instrumental in keeping you alive.Heal BonesThe pet heals are pretty much meh. Better than nothing, but not even in the same universe as Tainted Heals aa ability.AA choicesFirst 5 points into necro line, tank damage reduction.Next 21 points into necro line, manipulations. Get Tainted Heals, get it quicklyNow, start into the summoner line, stamina. Get Preceptor's Command, the mini-rescue will help get agro back on your pet if something decides you look tastier than the corpse poking it with a stick.Back into the necro line, rotting. Dump 5 points each into the 2 dot quickeners. This will definitely help increase your dps.StrategiesThis is pretty much a personal choice, you'll come up with many opinions here, take them and build your own methods.Sounds like your methods are similar to mine. The splitpaw spell will work better with your root-nuke-nuke method. Dots break roots like mad, and the splitpaw nuke is a replacement for your fast recycle dot. It does a little less damage, but all at once instead of dribbling it out over a couple seconds.

Heya Rut.

I'm in the same grave. Trying to figure out the best way to work my necro, currently level 20. I tried out a few evil classes as a Sarnak, but didn't really like playing as a Sarnak. I ultimately settled on a human necro starting in Kunark (awesome starting quests and equipment). I also plan on mostly going solo and moved into Nek after finishing up the timeline in Kunark. This will be my first try at playing an evil character into the upper levels.

I haven't settled on a deity yet, but I'm interested in what made you settle on Berty. I've researched a little also and Berty does seem like a fav. When I hit 20, I whipped out my warlock pet and was very disappointed...lol. I think your observation is correct. He's not very effective for soloing.

My routine has pretty much been root, HO, Rot, Rot, reroot, send pet, dot or some variation. The tough part is rerooting and not being tempted to use the dots, especially if the Rots are resisted. In any case, I'm very interested in hearing how you handle things and I'll post any observations I come up with.

Hopefully, more necros like DrOctober will continue to offer some good advice. Good luck to you, fellow death master!!

I send pet, then dot, HO, rot, rot/ae, repeat and pick up loot. Get an adept III pet. Its worth it. Don't buy the pet, buy the rare component and make it yourself

Thanks for the advice, K. So you don't bother with root?

I know about the importance of the adept 3 pet. What profession and rares are needed for adept 3's for necros? Difficult to level that profession?

You don't bother with root unless you're fighting multiple mobs. The reason being, as long as your pet is beating on the mob, root has a chance at breaking. And as long as your pet has aggro, there's no reason to root the mob in place.Sages make Adept IIIs for Mages and Priests. It's actually one of the easiest tradeskill classes to level. And one of the most common.

Well, i was a dumb necro and, while i soloed most of the time, thought that i should spec for groups and not get Tainted Heals. Now, solo questing to 80 in ROK i decided to respec and got myself Tainted Heals. I was prepared for soloing to become a bit easier, but i was in no way prepared for the results. Mobs that were a challenge before are now trivial. Where before both i and the pet would be in the orange, now i finish the fight at 100% pet health, 100% health and 80%-90% power.Tainted heals puts you in a totally different ballpark in soloing, if i would restart, i'd get it as my first AAs before anything else.As for tactics, some of it depends on the pull. If the area the mob is in is relatively safe, i just send my pet in to open the fight. If the distance from the mob to a safe spot is inside spell reach, i pull with my smallest rot, and send the pet in so it catches the mob a few feet away. Long distance i send in my pet and recall it on aggro. That way you can pull really big distances. After pull, i use one (or on heroics both) of my swarrm pets, coil, bats (and/or whatever special dots you have). Then HO, rot, lifetap, rot etc. As required, i use one of the manipulation spells to heal pet. After getting tainted heals i rarely use my normal pet heals during fights anymore. Compared to th 2800+ HP heals for almost no cost from tainted heals, the normal heals are not really worth casting on your pet.Root is useful to park adds. As long as the mob doesn't get hit, root safely keeps the add away until you finish your original target. However, root rarely sticks even for seconds on the mob your pet (and your dots) are on, so it doesn't help much even when you get aggro from your pet. Usually fear and stun work petter to keep the mob off you until the pet regrabs aggro.

I would personally on the AA's get 5 in enhance warrior pet first as this will keep your pet up alot longer, then work down rotting line doing 5 in each untill you have 21 aa points at that point use your free respec card and go down the tainted heals line with 21 points to get the end ability. I did 5 enhance chain, dispell magic (takes 2 points) then 5 in grasp, 5 in grisly mark, 3 in fear for 20 points. then get tainted heals. after you get tainted heals get your enhance warrior pet back at 5 points. work down rotting line to get lifeburn.

In my opinion, the rotting line is far superior to the manipulations line (tainted heals line) until you accumulate 21 points and can get tainted heals itself. Once you have 21 points, respec as indicated above.
