View Full Version : Nagafen or Venekor I just don't know.

Here is the dilema. I don't think the balanced server I want exsists. I want a balance of pvp and pve. When I go questing solo or with my group in public zones, I don't want to be ganked every few mintutes while engaged in battle. But when I want to pvp I don't want to have to scowl the land for hours looking for fights.

What I hear is Nagafen is over populated and Venekor is under populated and there isn't really a middle ground sadly. With the new expansion of Kunark, I think that'll probably help spread out the overcrowded Nagafen, but actually hurt Venekor cause it will thin out the population even more with the vast new lands.

I really don't know what server will be better for me. I am afraid if I play on Venekor I'll feel "alone" Investing a lot of time trying to find groups or pvp opportunities, and as more expansons release this may become worse for Venekor... But with Nagafen I don't want to be getting ganked in pvp constantly everywhere I go by gank squads or lowbie twinks who level lock and overload there characters with platinum, adept 3's and uber gear. That would be discouraging because I'd be starting out from scratch.

I really don't know what the best is for me. I want 50% pvp and 50% pve. But it sounds like I'll have to choose between 75/25% on Nagafen or 25/75% on Venekor ...

Has here been any noticible impacts on either server with the release of Kunark? Nagafen sounds like a more sound future investment as expansion packs come out once a year, but I don't want to be losing every fight against gank squads or lowbie locked twinks.

Well i have alot of toons on Nagafan and i wasnt like "ok this sucks" and just left. I can tell you though (i havnt been on venekor sadly) that on nagafan it isnt like you will get ganked every second once you've exceeded 10. You will get ganked, but not alot, you just got to know and be cool with that you will die. Also to your question on is there still pve content, there is for i have seen many times on the chat channels where people are constantly asking "creating a group for BB or WC pst" on nagafan so it is still possible to pve.

Well due to the recent release of RoK, twinking is becoming less common on any pvp server i would think due to the new treasured gear that rules, thanks SOE for this new gear makes newbies who are new to eq2 pvp not feel bad and quit =)

Hope that answered your question btw, and happy huntings =)

It might be because I play at night, but I find Nagafen way too empty. I play about 2 hrs per night, my new main is in the low 50s, and I just see pvp about once or twice per week while soloing and harvesting. If you ask me, Nagafen is underpopulated. I played on Ven as well and it is ever worse... so as far as population goes, I think they are both lacking, but i'd pick Naggy.

Now, as far as quality of population goes, it is a whole different story. If you don't have a high level of tolerance for leet kidz, go Ven. Don't get me wrong, Nagafen is not WoW, but, still, we have our share of kids. If I were to restart, I'd go to Ven - people are friendlier and there are more pick up groups. I know some people don't care about that... but you should know there is a difference, and it is not marginal.

You can lvl quick in eq2, real quick even as a new character. And if you so choose to advance past the lvl lock twinks, you find your balance. But even as a brand new player i didn't have ANY issue with getting ganked over and over and over. Hell there were times where i would go a whole play session of 4-5 hours and maybe see 2 pvp fights. But when you are looking for fights you WILL find them. There are always "hot spots" that are boomin.

I find this balance pretty well on Venekor. I hardly get flack when questing, but if I want PVP, all I have to do is hit one of the "Hot zones".

Are all the public dungeons considered "pvp hot zones"
I wonder where those hot zones are at. As a Freep in the 50s, where the heck should I go to find pvp, let's say at 1 am est? Because it has been weeks since I saw any pvp.

However, out of curiosity, I did roll a few toons on Nag and spent a couple weeks there. You're correct. It is a completely different society. I'm sure there are very friendly people on Nag.. as a matter of fact there are good friends of mine that ride there now. However, they are vastly outnumbered by the immature. And, I do not use that word as a chronological description of age.. just attitude. For those looking for PvP.. the personalities and attitudes of the community is irrelevant as you're there to fight. If you want to enjoy a PvP server for both PvP & PvE and enjoy a friendly and helpful community, I'd suggest Venekor. Where even Q's and Freeps are respectful adversaries. We've even had several server wide events where both sides gathered in good spirit and spent afternoons of dueling tournaments, RP events, etc.Again, not to say this doesn't exist on Nag.. Its just harder to find.To be fair.. give both a fair shake and make your own decision. There's no rule stating you can't have characters on both servers after all.

That's the thing I am afraid if is seeing all public dungeons as "hot spot" gank zones that are incredibly hard to quest in...

I am in PST but playing after midnight is rarely an option for me, I have school in the week.

I too have been playing on Venekor since I started playing this game and I did recently roll a toon on Naggy, let's just say, I deleted her pretty quickly. It's a totally different world over there! On Venekor you can get some questing done and find pvp whenever you want it, lately though with the new expansion the pvp has been insane and you can't get much done without a group, but I still love it.

Hmm. PvP only when you want it is kinda the dueling thing on a blue server. Thats part of the thrill of a pvp server is the inherent danger in travelling about.

For PVP I join a gank group and either hunt other gank groups (hard to find) or go to CL or DLW (this is a locked teens toon, btw) and hunt toons our running around questing. It sucks to be a single low/mid level and have 3 mid-teens drop on you, but then 13, 15 and 16 attacking a 20/21 makes for a heck of a fight. When I solo, either pvp or otherwise, I expect of low K/D ratio.

I had real trouble with pvp at first. I couldn't accept having my posterior handed to me, carved up in small pieces. I have gotten over it. Our small group will even jump a superior group just for the fun of it.

You just gotta accept pvp for what it is, and remember to bank before you go out!

I left Venekor for a different game when the Fae came out and just ruined the PVP balance. I expected the same for this expansion but havent really seen it at the lower levels. Still, it is pretty thin on Venekor during my normal online times (9pm cst to midnight or so). If they do away with teen exp locking I'll see what happens, but I suspect it will be the end of the PVP server for me. I just don't see the numbers for a realistic PVP experience until t8 (with locking removed).
