<p>I just bought the game today. I'm looking forward to exploring all the nooks and crannies of Norrath. That is what I really enjoy, travel around and poke my nose every whichwhere to find out what is there. I expect to get killed a bunch, but I expect that comes with the territory. Can I get some advice on what class or classes to chose? Having read the class info perhaps a Ranger or Druid? I expect to solo mostly because I don't know anybody. Please don't hesitate to speakup if you have an opinion. I'm open to pretty much anything. Thanks upfront for the advice.</p><p>Oh, and if anybody has advice on Servers to choose or if there is a guild out there willing to take a true newb under the wing don't hesitate to speak up. </p><p> Grumkins</p>

I'd say you are looking at a monk or scout. Scouts have stealth so they can go a lot of places unnoticed, but some mobs can see you so you will get attacked even when stealthed. Monks have Fiegn Death, so you have a chance of getting out of a bad situation without dieing. Scouts also get a speed buff which makes getting from point to point a little faster. Make one of each and see which you like the best.

Scouts' speed buff (at least 16%) and invisibility is really great for exploration and quick quest completion (currently playing a Brigand myself), but don't forget that all of the mages also get invisibility although they lack any class speed buffs, so that's also another option for you. Summoners (Conjurors & Necromancers) are also great solo classes and fun to play as well (played a few mages too). Just keep in mind when trying new classes that you only really start getting a good feel for them at lvl 20 or above (around 24 or so).Make sure to read the stickied thread <span class="topictitle topicread"><a rel="nofollow" href="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?topic_id=346645" target="_blank"> Frequently Asked Questions for Newbies</a> </span>(nice breakdown of classes in there) but also give a few classes a try in the beginning yourself. Personal preference goes a long way towards enjoying the game and you shouldn't just play a class because it's supposedly great or "the best", but rather cause you like it.Good luck and welcome to EQ2 <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img mce_tsrc=" />

<p>I prefure Monk with a Horse(once you can afford it) for exploring because while yes you do get an Invis(wich does help in some places, but it costs power to maintain) you also get Fein Death wich can get you out of trouble very quickly, when it works. Also you have enough resiancy to stand up to a bunch of hits, if you deside to train instead of FD.</p><p>FD has gotten my Monk into many places thier is no other way to get to, such as all the way to the final MoB in Acranizam(a lvl70+ instance with mostly see invis mobs). I didn't kill anything just trained/FDed though it.</p>

<span style="font-size: medium;color: #993300;font-family: comic sans ms,sand;">Predators are cool, and make some of the best 'spies': they get an instant stealth and if they get caught can 'jump' to a safe spot in the zone (saved mah [Removed for Content] assassin many times) also with safefall you can explore some out-of-the-way places</span>

Just throwing this in as an alternative to the above ....Druid classes get to use the druid ring portals, which makes getting around very easy.  The Fury also gets a couple of invisibility spells, although once you hit 30 every class can use the jaguar/chameleon totems so the mid to end game is sneakable by all classes to some extent.  Fury's, eventually, get extremely good out-of-combat run speed, which saves the cost of a horse etc.  They also have a spell that boost the groups combat speed while removing roots (i.e. a very good running away spell) that last for 36 seconds I think.  I didn't add in the ability to breath underwater as Otter totems are a resource available to everyone.

<p>Of the classes mentioned thus far, do they solo well? The monk? The scouts? What lvl does the monk get the Feign death? Any other ideas?</p><p>Thanks,</p><p>Grumkins</p>

My monk spent her first aa points at lvl 10 in the skill that enhanses the "sprint" skill. she can run 70 speed and her sprint uses less power cause of the aa. Monk has skills like FD, where she can "play dead" and many times monsters leave her alone, they run away.</p><p>Fast fast runner for travel, feign death skills, good fighting soloer, looks way cool <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />" width="15" height="15" />  =  awesome low lvl exploration class!</p><p>edited to add, my monk also has invis. at a very low lvl. didn't want to forget to tell you about that invis. ..monks a full package exploration class lol </p>

I do pretty well exploring with my Assassin, and while we do get a self speed buff which is nice, I dont see that anyone else mentioned that when you are in Stealth..you lose those speed enhancements, so you'll run at normal speed while stealth, but another nice thing is that we get Escape. So you can explore all the way to the end of the zone (i'll use Everfrost as an example..fairly sized zone with lots to explore, and it dead ends when you reach permafrost at the top), then just use Escape and next thing you know, you're back at the docks safe and sound. Use it constantly for that.
