I don't know if these are for a quest, if they are I haven't found it. There are a couple listening crystals scattered across Kylong Plains at least. If you kill them, they say "Alert! Alert! Listening crystal damaged. Notify the Freeport Emissary Office. Alert!" so we can assume that they are related to the devices employed by Freeport in the Sanctum and are being used to spy on the various factions on Kunark. They spurt out random things in NPCsay every once in a while, here are the ones I've heard (if you kill them they respawn instantly and say something, so it's the quickest way to get all of what a specific crystal says):Varis (the island outpost of Sathir, I haven't gone back to get the other three messages yet):I do not like this at all. Field Marshall, send a message to Riliss and see if we cannot...Ru'kaus (goblin tower in the south):Take it to Sebilis at once. I do not care to look after something so precious to the emperor for too long. It would...Please my love, I cannot keep this charade up for long. Speak to your Overking. Let him know that my love is so strong that I would......need to track those crypt raiders down. If they are headed to where I think they are, then they shall die by the emperor's elite......spidernikis are foul, but the presence of outlanders most likely means that their...Drachnid Caves:...must find the tomb of the serpent chief. Only his spirit can...The master demands that the stone be taken to its place of...Those thieves must be caught or it is our heads that will......must find the city. There we shall see that the stone...Questions:Are there more? Feel free to post more with their locations and I will add them. What are spidernikis?Who is the overking?Who are the crypt raiders, who are the thieves, what did they steal?Who is the serpent chief? What is the city and the stone? Is this for the epic or is there some sort of other quest?

They're for the Fistfull of Metal questline, who's starting NPC isn't in the game right now for some reason.

Oh yeah. They were placed there by Freeport spies, just FYI. The quest line doesn't lead to any answers to the questions you asked.

Listening Crystals:

That brings back vague memories of a strange place and time when the sages tell me I used to walk the lands of a place called Britannia. It's probably just a dream though.

the leader of Chardok in EQ1 was called the Overking. could the present leader of the Sarnak.the serpent chief? a stolen stone? could these be allusions to the return of the Shissar? or, since dragons were sometimes refered to in myth as great seprents, could it be a referance to Trakanon, or perhaps Jala'dar, the orignal leader of the Ring of Scale?

Maybe the references to the stone and the city are Teren's Grasp and the floating stone with the blue runes that is surrounded by the four mages. Does anyone have any idea what that stone is? Is it related to the Combine Empire in some way?

Here's another fun one: who's the master of the Drachnids?

Sounds like Mayong's interest in Kunark centers around a stone! Mayong and a stone, hum...

I think you need to catch up on your everling/shissar lore and relate that to your stone. As for the overking, yeah he is still around leading peoples. My guess is that the stone is or was in the possession of Venril Sathir but there are some crypt raiders that tried to come and steal it. That is assuming that the thing of value is the stone. but a more probable answer would be...Scenario 2, The Drachnids are looking for the tomb of the serpent cheif(shissar maybe?) which is probably in the city(chelsith or charasis dunno) where there is probably the stone(stone of the shissar). Those theives(crypt raiders maybe, is there a connection?) could have taken the stone or are trying to take it. Their master is Mayong Mistmoore, and in earlier posts it has been stated that mayong was in possession of the book by Everling about the runes.Hmmm... i guess Kunark does have something to do with our eq2 story....
