Interesting thing about the Field of Bone. Not only have Jaled Dar's remains changed the face and name of the wastelands for countless centuries, but to this day his bones are still concealing concentrated amounts of magical energy.

Each night in the Field of Bone, an interesting sight shows up. The bones' energy emanates a ghostly aura of Jaled Dar himself. Tormented, waiting for spiritual release, even when his spirit itself lies in the Dragon Necropolis.

It can't do anything. It's bound to the physical remains of his skeleton. He bites out, rises up, and roars out until the sun comes up. His wingspan alone is longer than the entire field. If dragons can grow to this size, then why haven't we seen others this size? Darathar was the 2nd largest we've encountered, and he's got nothing on Jaled Dar.

Kerafyrm has nothing on Jaled Dar...

My list of things to run and see when my copy of RoK finally shows up just keeps getting bigger...This just sounds incredible. Makes you wonder whether Veeshan started off somewhere as a little 20 foot hatchling. And if so, how old she was when she put her mark on Norrath. And how big she is now...Are Jaled Dar's bones on par with his ghostly self? If not, it may be reflecting the measure of his magic power rather than his physical form. Or he/his power is still growing because his spirit still exists, even if his body is long rotted.Have we seen Kerafym though? His size in EQ1 may not be on the same scale as in EQ2. Jaled Dar could be the first sign of the really, really big dragons come out to play.

Well, my best guess is that the real size of Jaled was the one matching his remaining skeleton..

All i know is that I was entranced when I saw this for the first time. I was up on the cliff on the side with the Bellywhumpers and the edge of his wing went right through me.Simply amazing.agressiv

Tarinax probably is about the same size as Jaled Dar. It could be that these "undead" dragons so to speak can grow larger with out a scaly pelt keeping them in.I heard that trakanon used to be undead...wonder how big he is now.

He had bolster on when he died.

The general theory, as I understand it, is that Dragons grow indefinentally. The older a Dragon, the larger, and vice versa. Darathar is old, but not that old. Nagafen is moderately old, but still looking within the general span of the existance of Humanity/Barbarianm kind. Jaled Dar and Tarinax are ancient, easily pre-dating the Gods of Love and Valor themselves and the barbarians/humans that came resulting from their actions. Jaled Dar and Tarinax, to my understanding, are among the oldst brood. Jaled was held in esteems on comperable terms to Lord Yelinak himself, hence the whole reason Jaled's exile became a major Draconic faction and not just a long lonely seclusion. Comperable size to Kerafyrm? Probably. While Kerafyrm is considerable younger, he's still in that age group, likely old enough to recall a time when Shissar and Kedge were world powers.

It could be that prismatic dragons just start out naturally bigger than other dragons.

Tarinax doesn't size up. His wingspan doesn't cover the entire area when you fight him in DT.

True enough, but he's rather lesser than Jaled Dar, we'll all agree. In age and status, I'd assume.

Just been sneaking around there... he looks incredible! If you get close enough, you can hear him roaring and the wind from his wings. And he's surrounded by undead iksar dragonslayers and dragonmages. And there's the small box inside Jaled'Dar's skull - looks like one of the music boxes from Frostfell 1, or the jewelry boxes you have to grab for a sabotage quest in Freeport.

It is hard to believe that a dragon that size was defeated by some Iksar that was destined to become someone's boots...

Actually, Jaled'Dar and Ganak died while battling in the sky, in an explosion of magic and fire. The Sebilisian Empire possesed a great number of magical artifacts, and had already had two incredibly powerful dark magics users as Emporers (Venril and Atrebe). Also, the Ring of Scale are the ones who *started* the war between the Sebilisian Empire and the dragons, as Trak'Anon saw the empire as a threat. It might not semm plausible, but the Sebilisian Empire rivaled the dragons, and Ganak did kill Jaled'Dar, just as Jaled'Dar killed Ganak.

If Jaled Dar was killed in Field of Bone, what was laid to rest in the Dragon necropolis?

The one that split up Antonica, I forget which is which). That's still a long time, though I'm not going to say it has anything to do with his size.I don't think anything of Jaled`Dar is in the Dragon Necropolis except for his Shade. What is a shade exactly? I dunno, a ghost maybe? He was there to aid adventurers in awakening Kerafyrm. I'm not sure if he traveled there on his own or not.

His shade (His soul) still managed to get back to the Dragon Necropolis. It's never explained how that was accomplished though.

Remember, his soul is still his conciousness. If his aura was his soul, we'd be hearing him talk at night.

The ghostly image in the Field of Bone is more of a residual aura or energy and NOT his actual spirit which was somehow transported to Dragon Necropolis ages ago.

I swear I remember reading somewhere that at least some small part of Jaled'dar was laid to rest, in honor, at the Dragon Necropolis. I just did some digging around but I couldn't find the piece I was looking for, I'm gonna keep digging and I'll come back w/ a link when, and if, I find it.

I think Jaled Dar is that huge because he is a first brood dragon, basically a direct child/hatchling of veeshan.
