View Full Version : Crashing ALOT since RoK came out

Ok, quick question. Haven't seen any post yet, so wanted to see if anyone else is having my problem.

I have played EQ2 for months without error or crash. Now that RoK came out, I crash every 30 mins in RoK zones (approx. sometimes more sometimes less... but average). I get an error that the application has run out of memory or something like that. Highly unlikely a problem with my computer. As I have said, no crashes before expansion... ever that I can remember. Now, a lot.

Edit: I have not tried the normal zones for more than 30 mins yet... Not sure if crashes are game wide or just expansion.

Computer

CPU: intel q6600 @ 3.7 ghz ( 463x7 )

Memory: 4x1 gb DDR3 - 1600 @ 1483

GPU: EVGA 8800 GTX stock

I would go on, but you can see why I don't think I am "out of memory"

Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit

Anyone else having crashes? SoE know about this issue?

Please do not ask if my OC is stable. tested 24 hr prime stable, 24 hr memtest stable, and have run 30 days plus folding with no issues.

Check your virtual memory settings. Run a full scan in the launch pad. Your system looks fine, so I don't know why it would say you ran out of memory. Is it only happening in the high population zones? You can also try turning down your graphics.
i've had a crash once today, out of memory error, aparently swap is 1.5gb and the game tried to allocate moreplaying on very high quality xp 2gb ram and 8800 ultra, crashed in the new zone starting with K

It's not his system (at least not directly). This was reported MANY times in beta, and not fixed. Windows has a 2gb memory limit per application for all 32 bit versions, (you can sometimes alter windoes to fix it, but thats more for the tech forum). RoK simply uses too much RAM if you have textures maxed. Turn world down to medium, and characters to high and it will stop. (Yes, it's a PitA to have to nerf the damned graphics to not crash, but it's all I could find) Just join in with everyone else telling SoE to fix their stupid memory usage.

In Reply...

Fejyelsae... Read above your post. Windows XP user having same issue, so... Vista is not the only possible problem.

Also, the 2gb memory limit would make sense, except I am running 64 bit OS... I shouldn't have the same memory allocation problem. I understand that EQII is a 32 bit program... But typically memory allocation is OS dependant, meaning that a 64 bit OS can allocate memory properly, even in 32 bit programs.

Welcome to any other suggestions.

BTW. I did turn down graphics, and lasted for about 1 hr. Crashed when closing EQII. I have no idea if I was lucky (as I have lasted 1 hr on full graphics, just the average duration is about 30 mins) or that actually helped. I didn't care that much, because I was quiting, but still, SoE should look into the problem. No reason I should have a top of the line system and have to turn down graphics to avoid memory allocations errors when my system clearly has enough memory.

Edit: Another point of interest might be that I use ThorUI and eq2maps. There is the possiblity that my problem lies in 3rd party UI enhancements... I do have the latest versons of both however.

Thank you all for your help thus far.

I run Xp myself along with ThorUI and eg2maps and only have 768 MBs of Ram and no crashes.

ftw!

Saw this error 4 times before giving up playing. That just rocks. I have 3gb of memory (which btw i tested with memtest86+ and got no error). Virtual memory is set to 4.2gb and i have a 1gb (7950GX2) videocard. Somehow, i doubt it's a hardware issue.

Now, this topic is also posted in the tech forums section and there is speculation that it is a sound card issue. But i've been sending in bug reports about sound problems since pre-KoS.

Pre-RoK i was running crash free (but had screwy sound on occasion). Post RoK, crashing worse then a crack addict driving around blind folded just after a fresh hit of crystal...

/auc wtb tech support please.

Also, SOE... please fix the spellings of TEIR`DAL throughout the entire game please? K, thanks. Tired of seeing it spelled wrong. it's not tier, it's teir. I know the concept breaks the standard english language rules but umm, this isn't a standard english language word. Find and Replace Tier`dal with Teir`dal. works great! Heck you could even include this in the next LU and spin it as some uber player benefit!

As you can see this has been a problem for some people for a loooong time now. Since the release of RoK this **** is hitting the fan now.&http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=393042I've noticed a lot of people with the issue have some high end system specs and people who don't have an issue run balanced or below settings. For us who own these expensive high end computers we're stuck with another problem... never mind the fact this "View best with nVIDIA SLI" video game doesn't perform worth a **** with SLI enabled. Thanks again SoE! They did beta test this game right? Ohh right it's... first comes the money then comes the complaints then comes the bug fixes. Is it bug fix time? Pleaseeeee

There are many topics related to this bug, search for memory bug or critical error. Many players have this bug in RoK, I would like to see a fix please.

i find it interesting that Support can hop right on threads like this an answer them:

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=390447

But dont even put a single comment like this one saying that they are at least looking into the issue. Not even a false promise post saying they will look into it just to make us think they are doing something.

I guess even making a single remark would be tantamount to an SOE employee admitting there is indeed a problem and corporate simply will not allow or acknowledge such thing.

"Eventhing is working as intended. these are not the droids you are looking for. Move along."
