Once, in front of the guild on TS, the GL asked me why I play girl toons. Was I trying to tell folks something about my desired sexuality?

My answer to that question is always the same. If I'm gonna sit here and stare at the same character graphic for months or even years, WHY WOULD I WANT TO STARE AT A GUY? As a matter of fact, I could go so far as to suggest that if you are a guy, and you want to stare at a brauny guy for months or even years, WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT YOU?

And as someone has already pointed out, if they play a male character, they want to see male characteristics. We all picked our gender at character creation for a reason. I wont go so far as to suggest that SOE is trying to genderswap me by having my most frequently used pet as the opposite gender of what I picked, but it does raise an eyebrow.

I was pretty dissapointed once I got the confirmation that female necros will be casting the male spider, but either spider is a pretty darn cool follow-up to the spectre mage pet. So I won't complain too much. I think the real problem many of us female necros will have is that the female spider isnt just a chic, but a vavoom.

And one more thing, I have not seen the male spider graphic. I heard a rumor that it's some kind of mechanical or armored spider? If that's true, I'll hold my lukewarm praise in check for now. Oh, and one more more thing, Black Widow male spider have tiny thoraxes and are much smaller than the females.

For a brief amount of time the devs did actually TRY to get the pet's gender to be determined and be opposite the gender of the caster, but it didn't work out too well as instead everyone wound up with a male drachnid instead. Interesting concept, no doubt it might get revisited in the future if they ever manage to work out the kinks (and this somewhat affects my SK's squire too so trust me, I can relate).

I just wanna be sure. I'm a stickler like that!

*pulls out the stone tablet and chisel*

If he is saying that, he's wrong. Female chars ARE casting male spider pets. Males are casting females...

Get over it, move on... its not a bad idea... adds a bit of diversity to the game. Now, all necro pets won't look alike, even at M1 level. I personally like my female spider better, but allas, I'll live with it for the sake of overall diversity.

Why even think of making this change. When i summon my nightshade it is not based on the gender of the character it is a female vampire scout pet. Same with the grim terror it was not gender based so why this one. just leave it the female drider pet and get on with it

Rumor has it that it's wearing plate armor. That would be pretty whacked for a mage.

You can even /bug it if you want. I stated 2 facts... 1) its like this currently, and 2) that I don't personally like it either, but that it would add diversity to the chars... Sorry if you think any of that is "talking to you like a child".
