Hi everyone,I just recently started playing but I am a long time MMOer. I am still seeking a "main" to level up and I'm considering a coercer. I have looked over several pages on this forum but I still have questions. Any replies would be helpful.1) For roleplay reasons I was wondering if it's possible to be good and be a coercer. I know you can't start as good, but I don't quite understand all this betrayal stuff yet. Can I start as evil and later quest to become good, but stay a coercer?2) It seems the charm is pretty spotty, at least until I can get it Master, which I can't for a while for simple money reasons. That given, how essential is the charm to solo play? Can I look at it as just another CC tool in my arsenal? How often do you swap out pets while soloing?3) What one little thing do you love about your coercer? What one thing do you really hate?4) Is there anything you wish you'd known when you started leveling one up? Thanks much for your time and replies, and I really hope this class is what i'm looking for in a main. I really enjoyed the DAOC sorcerer, and while I realize the coercer isn't quite the same i think the flavor will be. By the way, I'm Anno on Unrest if you play there and want to say hi.

1) Nope. If you betray from evil to good you become an illusionist.

2) Charm helps, especially if you can find a good pet. (usually mage/fury type is best DPS), but with that said you can still solo without charm. Recommend at least adept III

3) Being able to take on mobs with a less than perefect group setup. Lack of DPS.

4) lol dunno, started mine in 04 alot has changed.

If you have the right timing on spells and so on it's kewl and a good thing.Good gear is hard to come by things with porcs or subjestion

4.) yes, that mental resis buffs let pet's break to easy.

Broke class, play something else

I levelled my coercer to 70 in the last 2-3 months, so I don't know how uber we used to be.

1) As stated, a good coercer is an illusionist. Some races can start in the new RoK city though, which is kind of neutral. That might be worth considering.

2) Charm makes soloing much faster. Use a mage pet and root/nuke. M1 charm, root, DD nuke and mes help a lot for that. The eq2.wikia.com site has a handy list of pets: http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Coercer_Pets. To boost your control abilities consider 5 points into the resistances AA tree (10% charm) and taking the WIS line (+subjugation), at least while levelling. When soloing I would keep the same pet while in any given zone.

3) Love? Just fun to play. I've had a tank, scout and healer class, but coercer is probably the most flexible. Hate? The utility has a price, mainly lack of DPS (our reactives also require us to be hit to do much damage!), but also one of our strengths is stuns, which other players don't appreciate because it's not apparent on parses or like a mes is (messing just reduces group dps).

4) Maybe that levelling to 70 (now 80) that you would solo a lot, and thus to gear AA choices to solo rather than group play... that's whay I'd recommend AGI-WIS while levelling, along with Thought Snap line (better stuns etc) and maybe Resistences coercer line for the best solo crowd control. You can then respec later for raiding.

There's a lot that could be 'fixed' for coercers. But I'm still enjoying the class at the moment. Some say RoK has many stun/mes immune mobs... yet to see how severe that is.

If you plan on farming nameds or taking on heroics, master charm and a good pet are essential. You swap pets when you zone or your pet dies.3. I love the utility I have in group PvP. I love being able to stun and stifle the crap out of enemy healers or casters, putting reactives on the tanks so they kill themselves, mezzing half an enemies group, fearing people into mobs, etc. It's loads of fun pvping with a decent group as a coercer.I hate how boring this class is to play in PvE. In 99% of the zones you could go afk and /follow, and most people would never notice. Nearly all the abilities that make a Coercer desirable in PvE are constant buffs, so outside of some emergency power management you're basically a buff bot. Mezzing, stunning, stifling doesn't do much for you in single groups, and they're nerfed to all hell in raids.4. See #3 part 2.
