View Full Version : ATI Radeon x1950PRO and Aliasing of any sort.
I have been trolling forum after forum, google search after google search to find out why I am failing to make Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropinc Filtering, Super-Sampling, anything to work in-game. I've added the r_aa_blit 1 (apologies if it wrong in the post, it was enabled in the .ini per custom UI) to my eq2.ini file, disabled the Catalyst AI, dropped the settings from off to max and back again to see if there was a change at all and see nothing. I get crazy aliasing on everything and has of late been driving me up the wall.(may have to click once to make them full size)http://media6.curse-gaming.com/dl/9.../EQ2_000061.jpghttp://media6.curse-gaming.com/dl/7.../EQ2_000208.jpgTop shot is nothing forced, max settings in game (minus shadows i think), bottom shot is ini file line, forced settings, and max settings (sans shadows again).hlep =(EDIT: using windows xp, not vista

Hello there!I would just like to comment in response to let you know you're not the only one having problems.I too have read all the forums and I know what to do to get it working. But I can't get the settings to stick. I have created the eq2.ini file and added the line "r_aa_blit 1" but it doesnt seem to do anything. The only way I can get it to work is to edit the eq2_recent.ini and add the same line. But the only problem is it only works for that game session once I quit and come back its reset and that line is gone again. I just don't understand it's like the eq2.ini file doesn't do anything and when I tried putting it in the eq2_default.ini and eq2_recent.ini it just gets erased again. Can anyone out there help us?AMD 64 X2 4200+1.5GB RamRadeon HD 3850

Could someone that knows a thing or two about this please reply? I notice that r_aa_blit 1 gets removed after the EQ2 launcher scans my files before I hit play to enter the game.

NOt a pro here, but try running everquest2.exe instead of eq2.exe. It wont run the launcher that way.

Will I still get my game updates that way? I'm willing to try anything here.

I've been having this issue as well.I've been able to get the setting to stick in the recent.ini file if I change the file to read-only so the game can't modify it but even if I do that, AA doesn't seem to work anyway.I've tried putting the line in the eq2.ini, the default, and the recent file and setting them all to read-only and still no dice.I've tried putting them in all 3 and then typing the slash command version of it in game and zoning but also nothing.EDIT: Yes, I know you have to turn off the bloom effects and I did that and turned off shadows as well but nada.

keLston, try and add the r_aa_blit 1 line after you launch EQ2 once the file scan has taken place because I know thats when the command gets removed. Also here are the ATI settings I have that looks gooduse app settings uncheckedAA 4xAdaptive AA Quality (Super Sampling)Anisotropic Filtering 16xCatalyst AI disabledMinimap detail High QualityAgain I can't get the settings to stick. I will try and bypass the launcher and see what happens but even when I made those files read only they changed for me... sigh

Adding it while the game is running seems to have no effect on whether or not AA works.I added it. It's sitting right there at the bottom of the recent.ini file but AA definitely is not working.

Well I have the r_aa_blit 1 set in all ini's except the eq2_default.ini which got removed by the launcher and when I launched the game that way AA doesn't work. I tried launching directly without the launcher and the settings still didn't work. Bah!

Alright,I just found out what seems to be my problem. It's the ATI catalyst driver settings that aren't sticking either. Now I tried this in window mode to see and sure enough after I opened catalyst and reapplied my driver profile settings the AA was working. I don't know why the settings in the driver don't stick. So I'm guessing as long as I go and reapply the driver settings before launching the game that should do the trick. I'll try that next time and report back.

I would try that but I don't use an ATI card and my driver settings are definitely sticking just fine.

Well for what its worth my driver settings appeared to be set correctly also. I just reapplied the settings and presto it worked. So visually looking at the settings they appeared correct in my driver settings.

I have reapplied them in the driver control panel. I've tried changing them on the fly with a 3rd party utility. And i've tried doing both as well as alternating alt-enter to force a full screen re-render with no changes. The way it's meant to be played... right.

Wow that sucks! I really don't understand why AA isn't an in-game option by now. Unfortunately I'm using ATI so I don't know what else you can do but it sure sounds like you've done just about all you can. Those jaggies are horrible I'm at the point I can't play if I don't get AA working.
