I remember the Devs, or hearing Rumor that the dev's said that chairs wouldn't be implimented (usable ones) because of the large variation in race size, but, if any of you have ever checked out LOTR online you'll see that they have a pretty nifty system for it.. Rather than clicking on / using a chair that is static in the world, if you are within x amount of feet of a certain chair then the game will "Steal" the model of that chair, and place it underneath your character. I think that something like this would be fairly easy for SOE to impliment, and also as the chairs appear part of the character (Emote) they would be able to scale them based on the characters size automatically (Like horses)Just a suggestion, i know alot of us really want to use those nice chairs in our houses. OR another option is with the new skeleton model add /chairsit, which would just bend your knee's as if you were sitting on a chair, it would require some imagination but even THAT would be more workable than the kneeling /sit that we have now.. we could sit on counters, tables, and even on chairs that way.. -Prays for SOMETHING less static to come for us RPer house-party types-

I think the /chairsit emote is a super idea! Make sure you feedback that one. That's definately the easiest way I can think of for making chairs work...even though it wouldn't be perfect it would be better than kneeling.

I actually brought this idea up in the forums (a year ago?) ... the problem is the PC models don't all fit in the chairs. Thus, the devs would have to create art assets for the new chairs and they simply don't want to do this. They would also need sitting animations for the races....For chair size, the Trolls and Ogres are the only races that don't fit properly on the existing art. What if the devs auto-swapped out the chair being used for the "Ogre" chairs in game currently for these races? Then there would be no chair art to create. When the PC gets out of the chair, it returns to its original asset? Its truly unfortunate that most devs leave out these little RP tools for the community to use in most MMORPGs. Even in LOTR, many of the existing furniture simply can't be used ; only a handful of furniture can actually be used to sit. The sitting situation in SWG works becuase it was built into the game. In EQ2 it would be an afterthought so much harder to incorporate. For a game of this breadth and magnitude, this truly is a silly situation. I don't think we'll ever see interactive furniture. In future, I hope MMORPGs create art for PCs to lean against bars, sit in chairs, lie in beds, hold (and keep holding) glasses while drinking, etc. "Play cards" would also be great. I realize these are things the majority of their market wouldn't use, but they are things the RP community would use everyday. One day, someone will remember that "RP" is actually part of MMORPG.

What the OP is talking about would overcome the size issue (though I don't see why they can't just restrict who can sit in what). What they're suggesting is that instead of actually sitting in a chair already placed in the world, when you initiate the sitting command a chair 'magically' appears looking like the closest chair to you. The 'magical' chair could automatically scale to your character. This could work quite well, when in an area without chairs around you sit like now, when you're in a room with a chair nearby, instead of the default sitting/kneeling on ground animation, an appropriate chair appears and you sit on it. And if it's too hard to make a clone of a nearby chair, just use a default one.C'mon SOE, make it happen!

I have to agree, I did the 7 day trial for lotro and liked it so much i signed up for a paying account. EQ2 could learn alot from that game when it comes to roleplay idea and even just plain fun. There is still too many things i do like in eq2 to completely quit ( trust me i thought about it because every time i logged into lotro i was like " omg why doesnt eq2 have this?!" )Chairs for example, i love that no matter what town your in, pub , house or bfe location, if there is a type of chair, you can sit in it.I use the /smoke emote quite alot too hehe, stick myself on afk type in /smoke and i pull out a nifty pipe to smoke from, the emotes and interaction with the environment is so fun.

Like in real life, body language can say alot. Simply having NPC's leaning against walls, lying on a bench, sitting in chairs, smoking, playing music, etc adds a lot of atmosphere.

Imagine walking into a tavern in EQ2 and having NPC's sitting at tables smoking, drinking, playing dice or cards, singing songs or someone entertaining the patrons on stage. Waitresses actually serving drinks, etc. This is what I had expected/hoped for prior to EQ2 launch, and this is what I want to see added to the world rather than just more things to kill...
