I am new to EQII. I recently came over from WOW and have been playing for about a week. I only have one character (level 27 necro). I laid my history so there is foundation to me and hopefully people wont respond to my question with a lot of abbreviations of bosses or places I do not know. Also, maybe my understanding of instance are not what they truely are.

So, my question is this: I have read on the forums where different people have said "With that AA spec I can so (XXX such mob)" or " I go into (X type dungeon) and can easly kill all the named mobs".

I was around level 20 when I told someone in a group I was going to go into Wailing Caves and try to solo. They laughed and said there was no way I could. At best, I might be able to solo a few mobs at the beginning. Also, around level 22-24 I went with a group to Fallen Gate. I concur there was no way I could solo that place with sometimes 3-4 mobs blue to me but Heroic ^^^.

How are people, even at higher levels, soloing instances/dungeons? If you wait until things are gray, then doesnt that mean no chest will drop? If yes, then what is the point?

Thanks in advance for any replys and may you all be blessed with 100 camels!

you wait till right before the mobs go grey to solo them or pretty close, you want at least a 6 or 8 level gap between 20-30. Also make sure your tank pet is adept 3 and all your spells are upgraded to at least app4 adept 1 or higher.

The whole key to solo'g a nec is the right AA build.

Of course the best spells and gear is important too.

Tainted Heals is awesome. And so are Shockwave and Perceptors in the STA line. After that bulk up the tank pet.

This is assuming you are on a pve server. If on PVP it may not be worth fully optimizing your AA's this way.

Yes, there are some builds that make us even better... some even freakshly good... but at the OPs level, where AAs aren't going to be that big an affect.... Keep your pet Adept III or M1... anything less will hurt. Keep your Offensive and defensive stances Adept III or M1 also... at this level, you're way better off soloing constant hordes of non ^^^ mobs, than you are a few ^^^ mobs. The exp rate is much better with the prior. If you want to farm named mobs... then sure spend the cash on M1 spells, but otherwise you can exp kill non heroics all day with adept III or even adept I...

At L70, with the right AA setup, you can solo almost any non epic mob in the game...currently.

Awesome. Thanks for the info guys. Yeah, I wasn't wanting to farm anything now. I am more concentrated on getting up in levels so I can find more people to group. I was just curious if it was possible at later points in the game.

Again, thanks for all the help!

With ROK out this will be alot easier. You can swap between dps and a solo build right in your home.

When I want to solo named I Like the Stamina / Wisdom line along with tainted heals and some aa in your tank pet on the grave calling line. They whatever probally best to take the rotting line to pick up your dps.

This is not a required build you could also use your mage pet and stun and root the mob. I am not the bigest fan of this meathod though.

I've yet to see how you change your AA in your house. I know this was an option in beta. Explain?
