<p>The nature of the L80 spell has been discussed at length on EQ2Flames.com.</p><p>It looks pretty useless, unless there's some specific raids that somehow require that ability (none do today).</p>

The level 80 spells are still under NDA.
<p>The coercer L80 spell has been rumoured to have changed after a flood of complaints.</p><p>Obviously from what to what can't be discussed on this forum!</p>

As of a few moments ago, Gallenite announced that the NDA has been lifted.Puppetmaster is the spell. Initially it would allow the coercer to transfer a charmed mob to a group ally and allow the coercer to charm another mob. For 16 seconds at Master 1. After which the transferred pet broke charm. As if coercers even charmed pets in groups in the first place.Anyway. It was changed to a dumbfire pet. Three pets that look like the target of the spell, but are microscopic. They attack with melee, but do mental damage, generally around 150-250 damage on a hit. Spell lasts for 20 seconds, with generally 1 swing per pet each five seconds - so 12 attacks total. Recast is 45 seconds. I calculated the average dps, assuming you cast it from the start and keep recasting as soon as you can, to be around 53 - and that is with raid debuffs.No upgrades for Impetus, Mindbend, Enraging Demeanor, Cataclysmic Mind or Possession.Fabled set gear has the following set bonuses:3: +1 trigger to the upgrade of Auspex5: +25% power from the upgrade to Gorging Thoughts7: +5% spell cast haste to groupThere are lots of items with +spell cast haste, +spell crit, +damage, and the cap for +damage has been lowered, so we will hit the cap even faster now. My raid-buffed level 80 coercer has +775 damage bonus, much of which is wasted.

Yet again, we get a cast off spell that other classes have a version of, and it sucks. This class needs help

i seem to recall a thread in beta specificly requesting a dev to give a reason to use possesion in any situation, besides a party trick, what ever became of that discusion? Last i heard the devs never answered it. Devs create spells they themselfs cant find a use for, brilliant!

The dev who created Possession is no longer at SOE, so it would be kinda hard for him to answer. The dev presently creating the spells can't be held responsible for the existing spell. With enough pressure perhaps Aeralik will change Possession, but I'm guessing that it is lower priority than finding something to replace power drains - something that they knew was all but useless since LU13.

I'd settle for an 8 sec duration group buff that allows your group to do double damage with a 5 min recast for the replacement of possession, or they could just allow it to work in combat but i think it will still be mostly useless.For the replacement to mana drains maybe turn them into a group heal or HOT (while mob is under this impairment your group feel more confident and energetic or you suck the will power out of the mob and add it to your groups confidence coercing your group to go on) The heal doesn't have to be loads just an added compliment Or another idea maybe while under this impairment the mobs depth perception is blurred and has a -25% chance to hit its target so acts as an indirect heal.I'd still love to have a group confusion spell so they attack each other too lol.

Do you suppose the fact that Puppetmaster is NOT available from the Coercer Trainer in the NFP Mage Guild is significant? All of the other Coercer spells are there.

<p>ATM power drains are still usefull in PVP, I dount they will change while there is still an excuse to be made for their existance. Possesions is still a party trick, and has less functionality that a priest being able to sommon lvl 1 food and drink. In all honesty i like the concept of possesion, but the things that needs to be changed is (A) the durration (B) the fact it can only be cast out of combat. But this isnt a possesion sucks thread so ill leave it at that.</p><p>On the subject of this thread, "puppet master" still leaves much to be desired. A swarm pet does not even fit in the coercers range of abilitys, that seems like a summoner or illusionist to me. Now if this swarm pet perhaps added a .5-1 second stun with each blow, that would be something. Or perhaps each pet did a different effect, 1 stifles, another dazes, and a last can root. all being able to be broken by chance with dmg. All the while each point of actual dmg done by the swarm pet can be converted to a power heal twards the party. This way it isnt an overpowering stun pet, yet it is still usefull, and risky enough to keep the coercer on his toes, those "die hard" coercer fans will love the chalange.</p>

Sorry to change topic but I would love it Possession would be able to be used in combat, it would be like another control spell for us. But the "almost on top of them range" and out of combat....get real.Now back to the level 80 spell....

SOE claims that the two servers operate under separate rulesets, so have the spells on PvP do one thing, PvE do another. Puppermaster looks like the necro Imp Pack + the illusionist special 80 of taking the target's form, then the damage changed to mental. The attacks are melee and they don't take the caster's crit chance into account (melee or spell).
