I am pretty new to crafting and decorating my house, but want to persue it further as am finding it fun!So I am now wondering - are there any /commands to move items up/down/etc like you have in SWG? Or is moving things about more a question of trial and error? As so far I am having problems placing books onto shelves, etc Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not an expert, but I don't know of any commands like that. I do know that some bookcases work better than others. Also the angle and height you are facing the bookcase matters.

Unless you have a good reason to be in 3rd person when placing items, make sure you place them in 1st person because it is much much easier to be precise.

I have personally started using shelves instead of bookcases because I find them easier to place items on.

thanks for the advice there - hadn't tried 1st person view but it makes sense to...can't wait to get home from work and start designing - am really inspired by some of the houses shown on this forum!

Until a recent update you could 'only' place items in first person mode. I'm not exactly sure why this changed.

CTRL+MMW (middle mouse wheel) moves items up and down as long as they are originally placed in a spot they would normally be able to be placed (green)

CTRL+ALT+MMW allows items to be moved up and down in smaller increments

ALT+MMW allows items to be rotated - if the item is one that attaches to the floor or a ceiling, it will be rotated right and left; if the item is one that attaches to a wall, it will be roatated in a clock pattern.
