I did do a search, but a lot of the information is few and far between. I also have talked with in-game sources (players) about this and while the information they have is useful, I would really like to know more! I have a character who is going to be ICly tied to a Djini, and I just don't feel comfortable going on with it without making sure I know all the facts.

This is what I have obscured so far from various sources:

EQ2i~

The Djinn of the Desert of Ro originate from The Plane of Sky. Various portals created by conjurers intent on gaining greater power allowed the Djinn to cross over. In some cases, they remained in the service of their summoning masters. In others, they tricked their way free... for a time.

Since Djinn are not native to the primary plane of existence, they suffer the same degradation that many similar beings do when separated from their home dimension for too long. Because of this, the Djinn must maintain some sort of link to the essence of their plane of origin. For the Djinn of The Desert of Ro, these existential anchors come in the form of the container with which the being is associated.

Lamps, flasks, boxes, vases and various forms of jewelry have all been used to house Djinn. The specific shape of the object and the materials used have an unknown correlation to the type of Djinn an item can support. What is obvious is that the object (or the materials it is made from) has to have originated from The Plane of Sky. Since all elements of a given plane are metaphysical extensions of the plane itself, it makes sense that the Djinn require such objects to maintain themselves.

Forums~

Djinn magic is extremely powerful; they are able to give the gift of eternal life and also take it away.

Their Citadel in the sky is the only remaining piece of the torn Plane of Sky, which is majorly wiped out of existance.

What I've heard/rumors~

The Djinn are beings who crave reality. They will grasp onto anything real, because in their Plane/Citadel, most everything is just a fashioned replica of real things. They sometimes inhabit the bodies of unsuspecting Norrathians in order to experience the world.

Anyone know anything else? Desert of Flames lore is very interesting to me and I hope to be able to find out what makes these beings really tick.

confirmed through quests:

- The Djinn hate music. To hear music would cause them significant pain and damage to thier entire existance.

- To learn a Djinn's name is the ultimate blackmail. Learning thier name ensures that they will always obey your every command, or they will be destroyed upon the name's utterance.

Desert of Flames lore is very interesting to me and I hope to be able to find out what makes these beings really tick.

As Cusa was mentioning, their language is very, very musical in sound, and because of this, they fear music, in the words of the djinna who brought Mute Bard to the Shimmering Citidel, "You must never sing again, you come too close to our Names!" The Djinn are ruled over by the Djinn Master, a very powerful Djinn who resides in the highest depths of the Shimmering Citidel. There are a number of books from the Desert of Ro expansion that talk about Djinn and the other residents of Ro. Always remember, though, that such things must be looked at objectively, since they are written from the perspective of the author. In general, when people write, they have a tendency to modify the story to fit their own beliefs. Some of the stories are close to tales, while others are actual journal entries. A good source for the in-game tomes are the Athenaem. That link should take you right to the Desert of Ro section. I have found EQ2i a poor source for lore. Often times it's written by people who haven't studied the whole thing out, and are just putting down what they heard, or what they believe the lore to be. There are better lore sites out there, and if you search these forums, you could probably find links to them.

Hope this helps.
