Chain or Leather

<p>I'm making my first character ever and it's a swashbuckler.  I'm also trying my hand at crafting and I wasn't sure if I should go with a tailor or armourer.  I know we can wear chain but traditionally I thought rogue classes were more leather based and i'm unfamiliar with the game.  Is there any reason in this game for a swashbuckler to go with leather beyond the way it looks?</p><p> Thanks.</p><p> Laguz of Nagafen</p>

Both provide similar stats however chain has better mitigation, if you have a character rolled up already, take a look at the broker and compare master crafted leather and chain all the way up to lvl 62, one thing I have found is that rare leather raws are much much cheaper, so that may influence your choice.Now with appearance slots it is the preferred option to always wear chain and if you like the look of a particular piece of leather you can appearance slot it.
