Can we maybe get an iota of feedback on the Direct X memory problem? I pay for three accounts monthly and wasn't able to even participate in the Halloween festivities. I can tradeskill in the Faydark and Neriak and play the same low level zones but am unable to run the trick or treat. With the length of time this problem has been around isn't it possible to get some minor acknowledgement of the problem? I really want to get the RoK expansion but since I just started getting these crashes I don't want to waste my money if this is something that will continue and possibly keep me from effectively playing the new content anyway.

I understand that there are dozens of issues at any given moment but this one has been around a while. It's new to me but not to you. If those of us who are affected by this aren't seeing any real effort to address the issue then what incentive do you give us to keep paying? I love this game. But it does me no good if I crash within minutes of loggin in to certain zones. Just let us know somebody is really looking into the cause and I'll feel better, as I'm sure others would.

Hope everything is going okay out there after all the issues with the fires and all. Stay safe.

You have been playing this game for years and never subjected to a memory leak, and yet many others have in this same time period. Now you experience it, and it's the game code that is causing this?

Basically, you have ruled out that the game is NOT the source of the problem. Either there is a game memory leak or not...there is no in between. You have effectively played this game for years without this problem. Where does the issue reside then?

I have to agree with Tebos. Something changed recently on your system that lead to these errors. However, this could be an indication of some update that is causing the issue for you and others. And I'm not talking about the game. Possibly an update to DirectX itself or to a driver. I'm leaning towards DirectX having some issue at this time.

I think that is a pretty unfair statement honestly. You can read the tech boards and see that the issue he brings up is relatively new in the time line of EQ2. As the developers push their engine harder, they are hitting some operating system limits with memory utilization. The issue is the hottest topic on the tech boards and there has not been a resolution or dev response found other than hacks and those are against the EULA and don't work for everyone.

If the issue is most apparent in the newest zone neriak, you can only imagine the problem will get bigger and affect more people in RoK. That is the point he is making.

That is the point that I am making.

When people start experiencing these type of effects, they will always refer to the "hottest" topic, which has existed since shortly after the release of the game. It has always been a select few at any given point in time, but never alot of us. There are more of us who do experience this when something new is added.

It is closely associated with DirectX issues as a previous poster stated. It does happen more in frequency when people start to run the game in Extreme Quality or VHQ.

It's not entirely a directX problem. It is happening in the newer zones (neriak, etc) and you can expect RoK to push peoples systems much harder. I have a top end system and I never had this error until I went into Neriak with all the bells and whistles on. (no new hardward changes or OS changes throughout this time) This is a memory utilization issue, in that the game is storing more textures in memory than the computer can handle effectively.

Do you run with everything maxed like your card should be able to do?

It may not affect you, or others now, but if the top end gets pushed up again and people with the latest and greatest want to push their card they are going to see problems.

I have to disagree about the comments saying because it's just started it PROVES that it isn't the EQ2 content which is the problem. The ONLY thing upgraded recently on my computer is EQ2. I try not to upgrade anything when things are running smoothly, not drivers or software or anything, because I've run into issues years back where all of a sudden there would be a clash between new upgrades and old games.

I'm not saying that it's 100% EQ2 being wrong. I'm sure it's something in the game having an issue running with something on my computer (make that computers since 2 are having the same problem). And if I can run the game in some zones for hours but can't make the 10 minute mark in specific zones, ALWAYS, no matter what, that tells me that it's not my computer alone. There's something in those areas that is messing up. My computer can't possibly decide that it doesn't like North Qeynos and therefore will just kick me out if I decide to go there. Not unless there's something actually in the game that conflicts.

I think the fact that I didn't have the problem before but now do says the opposite. Something new has issues with something old on my system. I can't speak to those who had the problem before. I'm not a programmer. I just can't believe that out of the blue my machines decided to quit allowing EQ2 to function and it doesn't have anything to do with the content of the game.

I actually have two computers that I haven't tried yet. They're just less convenient. But maybe I'll find that it works well on one of them and till the problem is solved I'll at least still get my fix of EQ. Got my fingers crossed.

Okay, I see where that could be true. Still, the same holds true, it's something in EQ2 that clashes with something on my machine. I'm not a computer god, as I'm sure is true of most who play. I don't intentionally fool around with what is on here. My assumption is that when a game is designed it is designed to have as little problem with other software applications and hardware as possible. It would be in their (the sony team) best interest to find the link so it doesn't become a larger issue, and I would think it would aid in future planning to alleviate the issue in new releases. If it just started happening to me out of the blue then it could happen to you tomorrow, and 100 people next month and so on. I'm sure nobody wants that. As long as the cause is unknown there's no guarantee that it won't become a much larger problem.

I assume when purchasing a game that it will work and I'm sure the EQ2 team works hard toward the same end. I'm not pointing fingers and placing blame, I'm asking for some feedback is all. I'm perfectly equipped to design a filter or chute or refrigerated air dryer but I'm not going to solve this problem on my own. I don't have the knowledge or skills required. I'm not a computer person but I am a loyal EQ2 player and was an EQ player for years before that. I don't want to be frustrated by the crashes. I'd rather be out there in Norrath enjoying myself. That's all.

I'm going to lock this thread for several reasons. One being that there is already an official thread discussing this topic: Issue Tracking: "Application ran out of memory while requesting.."Secondly, there doesn't need to be a debate on whether or not this is actually occurring and who might be to blame. The fact of the matter is that if you are experiencing this type of issue then you should look into the discussion linked above as well as the following:Crashing randomly with "Out of memory" errorPlease read before posting!
