Vista and eq2 crashing internet connection

When entering the game right before I am about to pop in the game it locks on "loading UI resources" then I lose my internet connection, anyone else having problems like this?

<p>I got it to work.. Just to let everyone know-Vista it very tight with permissions.  I put all the SONY folders to share to all users, and I went to every application and set to run as administrator in both options advance and normal. I'm sure I didn't have to do all folders and applications but I didn't want to take any chances.</p>

<p>All you really need to do is, under Vista, right click the EverQuest II icon and select "Run as Administrator". The problem is that SoE basically wrote the client to assume that the user had full administrative privileges. You'd run into similar issues if you tried to use it under Windows XP as a normal user instead of an administrator.</p><p>Technically speaking, they deserve a bit of a flogging over this by violating best-practices in a LUA (least-privileged) environment, but then again, almost everyone else in the Windows world has done the same thing. For example, you're not supposed to create or modify files anywhere under C:Program Files unless it's during installation; it's considered a protected system folder. You're also not supposed to modify registry keys anywhere except HKEY_CURRENT_USER and that sort of thing.</p><p>They could, of course, fix all this but I imagine it would require rewrites of both Launchpad and the game client. So their path of least resistance is to just tell your to run it with administrative rights. Not that I imagine that they care, but there's no way EQ2 could get Windows certification the way that its written now.</p>

Interestingly enough, this is not just a Vista issue.  It is doing the same thing to me on XP.

It also flat out doesn't work at all for quite a few of us vista users since the last patch. Run as admin, all permissions, full file scan, fully patched, etc. It just bombs out right after the play button with an application error.
