View Full Version : Furies as primary healers?

I am getting back in to EQ2 after a long hiatus, and I want to play a healer. I have a little Fury I started a while back, and I am curious if Furies are decent as Primary Healers? Will I be able to get groups in this role? Will I be passed over regularly for other healer classes, such as Templars or Inquisitors?

Furies are extremely capable healers, and the best "AE/Group" healers of all.

Further, they can lay some serious spellcasting damage out, and as a result are extremely powerful soloers.

This makes them something of a "flavor of the month" type of class. Back in July I looked at the numbers and furies are the most numerous priest class overall, and 2nd most numerous after templar in the 60-70 range. Yeah, seems odd since you always see furies running around and can't ever seem to find a temp, but ymmv.

Anyway. . . because of their damage potential and the sheer number of people playing them like "wizard wannabes" who spot heal if they have to, furies have developed a reputation as a "poor healer."

It's utter bunk. As with everything in this game, it's the player, not the class. I have solo healed every zone in this game except Nizara and the Shard of Fear on my fury, and I'm pretty sure I could do SoF if I got into a group with a lot more dps than the ones I've been in lately. So long as the player remembers he's a healer 1st and can add a little dps when the situation allows, then you'll be fine. You just have to have the healer mindset though. Sadly, only about 25-33% of all furies seem to have it. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

But if you are a person who does. . . . Just make sure you let people know it, becuz otherwise they will assume you're a wizard wannabe and ask for a 2nd healer that they don't need. Let them know you're a great healer who happens to nuke, not a bad nuker who can heal and you're set.

Thanks for the tips. I am definitely the healer type, who just happens to nuke. I only picked a Fury because I figured I would have to do some soloing, not having a guild and such. So I figured a Fury would be easier to solo than a Templar or an Inquisitor.

I can second that Furies can solo heal. I have done it for my regular group very often. Like the DwarvesRUs said, it's all about your mentality. Just remember you are a healer first and toss a nuke/dot when you get a breather. One of the great things about being a fury is the excitement. I played a mystic from realease and was so bored. The fury is one of the most fun classes in the game imo and a very powerful one.

Unfortunately with Furys being such a popular class, there are many many bad furys out there. The kind that think because they can DPS they dont need to heal...this often leaves us with a reputation of poor healers. It simply isnt the case. I have solo healed every heroic instance in the game (except Nizara which I havent been to, and SoF) without any problems at all. To be a good fury, you just need to know when you NEED to heal and when you can DPS. Even when you can do both. This will usually change during the zone you're in depending on the encounters you're facing and the makeup of your group. I hit my first 1k+ zonewide parse in Lyceum the other day, while keeping my group up. 1k is nothing when compared to those who raid EoF zones, but gives a good indication of what a Fury is capable of. We can heal AND we can DPS...you just need to learn when and where you can do both

When I played my now retired 70 fury on Mistmoore I often was the only healer with NP.

Don't forget too, you can spec your AA's for better healing. You can also change up your equipment for different roles too. You can have a healer "package", focusing on more WIS (for greater power pool), healing adornments, and heal crits. And you can have a damage "package" focusing on INT and STR, dmg adornments and damage crits.

I also read you will be able to have an in-house item to allow switching of AA's builds in the upcoming expansion, so you will be able to optimize your setup for your current task.

Furies can be the best healers in the game if that's what they focus on. I have played every healer in this game (most of them at level 70 even, yes I'm a healer nerd), and my fury is the most fun and I feel is the easiest to heal with. I've also solo healed everything but SoF and Nizara. Nizara would probably not be an issue except for perhaps 1 or 2 named and SoF is cake except for maybe the 2x mobs. As it was when I did SoF we had a low dps group and I did 65% of the healing vs the templar that was with us. (Hate the zone though so doubt I'm going back).

Furies are also nice to fill in raid spots because they CAN dps quite well when healing isn't needed but then kick in the heals on the tougher named. You really don't need multiples of the other healers in raids.

As for raiding, if I'm in the main tank group with my fury, I almost always parse top. The only time I don't is when we're in someplace easy like Labs and I'm dpsing and not really healing much. Then I'll parse 2nd behind the mystic, lol.

Yea... was in SoF with my GF (defiler) and didn't really have to heal much so just started DPSing, ended up at like 35% healing. Was one crappy group, I parsed at 1.3k (minus x2's) zonewide. Next closest was a conj doing 800... Made me wanna cry.
