My wife and I have recently started a wizzy/illy duo. I would like the community's advice on this pair.

Considering we will always be playing together, will duo 90% of the time, and group the remaining 10%:

Where should we place our AP's, and what should we go for first in the AP realm?

Any advice on tackling heroics and heroic named, or any duo strategy specific to this pair?

Thanks in advance for any input, I am also posting this in the illusionist forum for their input.

This could be a very fun and challenging duo. Since you are both High DPS classes and you are both "squishy" your biggest hurdle will be keeping the mob occupied while you kill it. At the lower levels letting her pet tank might be a good option, but you will soon find that your nukes will pull agro off her pet. Of the two of you, you will die first so you at least get to yell "RUN" and be your wife's hero as she sprints an you die.

A better stratagy, would be the old "root and nuke". Keep your roots at adept 3 or mastered. Use her pet to hold agro while you both root. Nuke it. Watch the mobs buff/detrement window for when your root breaks and reroot. With a little practice you might be able to keep both roots from being broken at the same time. For higher mobs don't forget to cast debuffs early on. They really are worth the casting time.

As far as AP, for the wizzy line, I would start out in the power line to gain manaburn. Then start down the agi line to hasten your casting. As soon as you complete the agi line, respec and put all the points from power into wiz for more power. You will lose manaburn doing this, but by that time you will probably find that you have outgrown it. From there go down the fire and ice lines. There are many opinions on this topic so you may get many different answers. All are valid otherwise there would be no reason to make a decision and instead it would be decided for you. This is just what works best with my play style.

for the illi aa lines I can only say check the illi board. I would guess that focusing on her mez would be the best course of action.

For duoing , do not debuff the mob it is a DOT and will break your roots. Do not use dots. At least for herioc mob.

For solo fights: send in pet then both casters use thier debuff and then drop on your small unresistable nukes, pet should have a descent amount of aggro built up by now so unleash with the bigger nukes, mob shoudl die before pet loses aggro, and if it dosent who cares it is a solo mob and hits like a girl just have the illy use stun.

For easy herioc fights: use same strat as solo mobs except wait a bit longer to really open up, the illy pet can actually hold aggro fairly well due to its large use of CC spells.

Hard herioc/named fights: have illy type /pet ranged thsi will keep the pet back and have it only cast spells, it will lower the pets dps, but it will cast its root much more often. try to keep as many roots on as possible, and do not use dots sure they are part of debuffs, but they break roots faster than anything else. try to only use your top 2 or 3 single target direct ddamage nukes and reapply root when ever it refreshes. If root breaks have illy stun mon and reapply root when it refreshes. It may take a while, but you will be able to kill virtually every single named with this strat.

AP: Illy spec agi/int and wizzy spec str/wis for big hits whic is what you want for solo. Also Illy AP spec down the line for TC maxing out everythign except the debuff( as it shortens the duration of the debuff) and go down the IA line for all of your utility abilities. Wizard go down and get manaburn then a mix of the other lines is what I would do, with 10 in magi shielding. Keep manaburn as you will not outgrow it unless you start raiding, if you do not raid then it is by far teh best ability a wizard has aka get named mob to ~50% cast freehand manaburn = loot chest.

I have both a illy and wizzy, wish I coudl duo with them, but they are on the same account.

I actually have my illusionist and wizard on seperate accts, so I've two boxed them before. Ice Nova > Mez > Ball of Lava > Mez > Big token nuke > Mez is a viable option against any mob. I found this combo to be quite effective against caster mobs, and normal root nuke will still work, plus you can always use the illy pet if you have him upgraded enough to tank.

My g/f and I have played this duo for about 2 years and we've gotten very good at duoing instances, heroic content (hell she can solo everything, i just help make it go faster).

at first, until you figure all the nuances out, no DoT's. You'll eventually see how you can survive broken roots using the illus' Illusory Allies, but between all the rooting and all the stunning and the massive dps, it's very rare that we get touched.
