Seems as though NotD has been kept very under cover this year if they are doing anything new. Has anyone seen a release date for it this year?In looking at the calendar we have 3 weeks until RoK goes live which I cant believe is finally here but anyway - it would seem they are going to want NotD off the production servers before Rok goes in which doesnt leave much time to play with it this year, less than 2 weeks if it goes in tomorrow would be my guess.Insight anyone?

Its going live the 26th. And its the same quests as the last 2 years, according to the live update info. So nothing to test, I guess.

Frantic running around! Jumpy out scary guy!!... sounds like an average Saturday night at my house really.

From another thread:"Okay just got ontot he launcher again for Eq... just giving in a reply to what it says in Upcommingupcoming Game Update Postponed: Due to the fire emergency here in San Diego, the Game Update scheduled for Thursday, October 25th has been postponed. At this time we do not have scheduled a new date for it. Once we schedule a new date for the update we'll share the news.Pretty much can kiss Eq and Eq2's halloween event for this year goodbye imo... oh well start prepping for the fires and get ready for the frostfell event id say "

Last years halloween event (and frostfell, brell day etc) was patched to the live servers at the same time as the previous game update, and just toggled on by the devs. There was no download prior to NotD. I imagine (am hoping) it will be the same this year, so will probably appear on time.

Even just toggling the event on requires a chunk of time and staff at the SD office that we aren't sure we'll have this week.Once we are all back at the office and safe the seasonal activities will be turned on.- K

That is totally understandable, given the circumstances. Any chance you will let it run beyond Oct. 31, for a few days at least? Having at least one weekend would be nice.

I didn't realize you can post private messages. Most forums I belong to frown on that.

As for a disaster plan I would think they do have one in place. However a disaster of this magnitude can ruin the best of plans.

And in the very end - the lives of everyone in that area are far more important then a pixel festivity.

The original post about the technology did have some good points.

Last I checked, the servers are still up, you're still able to log in, and even these forums are still working. We've received updates from production staff who have informed us that certain optional updates are likely to be delayed.

That's right - an optional server update was delayed because they wanted to make sure they have the staff available to do it correctly. I don't know about you, but the last time I checked at such a plan (and I've helped write a few), optional updates aren't considered part of "disaster recovery".

So, while people are huddled together in stadiums, shelters, and the overcrowded homes of friends and family; while they worry about their neighbors, how to take care of their children, and whether or not they'll have a home to return to; while they stay glued to TV sets and Google maps wondering where the fire actually is...

...you just forget about all that and worry about your optional Halloween event coming *gasp* a week later. After all, we all know that's really more important here, right?

Next time, before you start making unfounded accusations and firing off assumptions based on speculations of other players, check your facts:

Per Grimwell:
I don't know SOE's contingency plans (that's not what I am here for), but at a former company I worked for we went through a 9/11 total loss of data/emergency plan and it was backed regularly (hours not days) and we had an "Oh CRAP!!" switch where it would instantly start flooding everything to the remote backup locations to try to capture every last drop of 'live' data (it was a finance company, every millisecond is $$$).I'd bet we have something that would get us up and rolling with a minimal amount of suck. Perhaps not up to the last second before the big red button was pushed... but something <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src=" width="15" height="15" />" width="15" height="15">

(Yes, I read the publically posted PM, too. That doesn't necessarily mean anything anyway. For one thing, we've only got that player's word that the PM is genuine. Even if it is legitimate, it's one employee's perspective - and not necessarily the whole picture even at that. Even if it were a complete picture, there's multiple ways to intepret the PM which don't indicate "OMG NO PLAN!!!"

To add insult to injury, the US servers have received "The Nights of the Dead" event. So that begs the question: Why if you can give that to the US servers even with the fire, are we still waiting for LU39?
