YOu guys went back and forth on my old post about 15 posts ago, talking about what dps and aggro does, 1pt damage = 1 pt. hate.

I took every little scrap bit of advice you guys gave me, put everything on spreadsheets and compared comments and damage and aggro and here is what i came up with

your both, all, and every one of you right. yes you are right,

yes aggro is everything and then again, it is not everything. /

yes dps is everything, and then again, no dps is not everything.

I AM ONLY A 31, and i can tell you already, I switched my exp rings i bought based on the characters i play with, and you can not, you absolutely can not tell me that everyone who tanks in a raid at your level 70 plays the exact same way, this is why you are all correct.

each group has to be analyzed as to what damage who is doing OR taking, and therefore you have to play your multi purposed PALADIN to the situation. Two groups as a main tank, one, i dps the heck out of the mob, good healer, second, healed myself during battle, cause i would have died , even with a healer. Why? cause you have to adjust to the group.

So, lets finish this topic i started that got way off track,, original post asked how to lose aggro... simple .. do not cast your crying conviction (AoE) spells, or your bash. Just using your proc'ed weapons and faithful swings, and everything with a sword on it works (as far as your Heroic opportunity goes), everything with a fist or an bicep muscle? ya, your asking to get hit...

I have learned from all of you that you start out in a fight watching your tank and your healer.. and you fill where you find someone lacking. period. I have 4 rings, int/wis, and sta/agi/str, ok 5, but you get it, if i need to heal , slap on the +20 int/ +20wis, and if i have to tank , i put on +20 sta, and (insert correct ring here, the agi, or str? i dont know which one works better)

and for my last question, I am finding that my 2hs (rated at 30.4) with magi, does not do near as much damage as my 1hs rated 25.4, with gleaming strike, and a really good shield, (i am using fanged kite shield), with the bash combat art.

you tell me, your thoughts, cause i am loving the learning process, i feel that when i hit 70, i am going to be very desirable in a raid, as I will play my part and adapt, and hopefully that will get noticed.

thank you for all your past inputs, and those to come, they are read every other day.. appreciated.

My avoidance drops to 7% or so (have 50 AGI iirc, yes its sucky) w/o shield + the dmg from even a decent 2-hander isnt that good compared to equivalent 1-hander + shield (avoidance now 25+, numbers may be tad off here, but you get the idea)also what i noticed is (i can be wrong, didnt really test properly) is that when i switch to defensive stance, i seem to take a lot less dmg than what i would expect by just comparing the numbers (avoidance & mitigation with offensive vs defensive stance). I managed to eg. solo the heroic orc groups in Zek with defensive stance while i did not stand a chance against them in offensive stance?!? My usual experience is that the offensive stance = better, since more dmg to mob = it dies faster, hence less dmg to you.*shrug*having fun with the pally thou... got STA 4-4-8 and STA 4-4-7 atm, working for wraths in EoF tree also... ++Xan

ok, DR means absolutely nothing. It is a pure mathematical formula, not a measure of a weapons usefulness.

DR = (Min Damage + Max Damage) / Delay

So, you could have 2 identical DR weapons with idential stats and one be a FAR superior weapon, it is also why it is possible to get a lower DR weapon that performs as well or better than a higher one.

Take for example a sword that has a 3.0 delay and a 73.0 DR. That sword can have these (and this isn't all inclusive, btw) damage ranges.

Min-Max

73-146

63-157.5

55-165

31-186

Of those, the bottom one is far and away the best (and doesn't exist as a one hander, though the gladius comes close). With the way critical damage works, a good damage range is a great sign of a good weapon. I'd take a 2 or 3 dr cut to get a weapon with a higher damage spread, because I'll do more damage with the higher crit range.

excellent point, I tried this out , and i found that yes, i was slow with the weapon based on a 2.7 delay. compared to a one hander at 1.2 delay. i used a 9-18 damage, 1.2 delay, to a 40-68 2.7 delay. wow, when it hit, with the aa spec'd right, (all of you suggested sta 4/4/8,.... agi 4/4/3, so far...) instead of a steady slow tick down with no serious movement of the bad guys health bar... there was significant drops, using spells plus the critical hits from this higher damaging weapon. So i will keep my one hander for social mobs, so i can use trample and area of effect spells, (aoe) but for single higher mobs, i am switching to a 2 hander. thanks
