Is it worth it to ditch my swashy in a all out grind to 70? I am almost 50 and if I quest my tail off I might be able to hit 70 w/ 100 AA by RoK...but my question is...is it worth it?

My wife normally plays a warden...its gonna be hard to duo with a healer as a ranger, isn't it? also, some of my favorite things are being able to parse high and duel...is the ranger going to be able to outparse the swashy if gear is equal? will he be able to at least win some duels? Will arrow costs break me? I can barely afford poisons, potions, and repairs on my swashy, add arrows into it and I may have a problem...and our gathered arrows are horrible now.

but, at the end of the day, while I like to be able to tank in a pinch like I can with my swash, and be able to ditch hate alot easier and avoid the nerfbat more and have a easier time soloing(face it, swashys are prolly the easiest solo scout class out there)...I love my ranger...and I enjoy lobbing arrows at things and the challenge of trying to solo while keeping range on mobs.

so, is my slightly larger love of the ranger class worth ditching the pluses the swashy has in duos with healers and soloing?

some 70s giving me their opinions on the class maxed out would be great!

well, like you pointed out... its really up to you... ehe. I mean, if you really feel that you enjoy playing the ranger, why not give it a shot? You can always start playing with your swashie again if for some reason you didnt like the endgame ranger.++Xan

i guess i am hoping for answers to some questions more than anything...

anyone here have a estimate on how many arrows they go through in a few hours of raiding? or xping for that matter? will it break me if i am not making my own ammo?

do rangers have a chance in duels if they know what they are doing? i spose this isnt a big deal but i find duels fun

what kind of parses am i looking at? if i had a full set of EOF legendary and all ad3s or masters, would i be able to pull 1500 zonewide dps on average in KOS and some easier EOF zones?

if i can get those answers that would make descisions alot easier...it would help me figure out if my ranger isnt 70 yet by the time ROK comes out of i wanna keep playing him or put him on a back burner while getting the swash to 80.

thanks everyone

I go through maybe 1000 arrows per raid. Soloing consumes lots of arrows aswell.
do rangers have a chance in duels if they know what they are doing? i spose this isnt a big deal but i find duels fun <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />I don't know, but I think they do fine.
what kind of parses am i looking at? if i had a full set of EOF legendary and all ad3s or masters, would i be able to pull 1500 zonewide dps on average in KOS and some easier EOF zones?

Yes. But unless you are in a hardcore raid guild you are stuck with a level 59 treasured bow, so the skilled assassins and rogues will outparse you

thanks for the info. i have decided that i am going to level my wifes warden up with my swashy first, then go back with her monk and get the ranger from 70 to 80...i spose when both are maxed i can see where i am at...i really do like the ranger alot...i am hoping instead of more nerfs rangers get some added dps in rok...no reason a untility/dps class like a rogue should be outparsing a pure dps class like a ranger in equivalent gear. now, i have noticed that while i go through alot of ammo, i dont go through near as much poison...so that may help balance it out...alot more poison procs off a hasted swashy than with my ranger lobbing arrows for a good portion of the fight...fewer auto attacks and since multiple arrows dont trigger poison it seems to last alot longer. besides, the guild i am in now raids 3 nights a week instead of 5 or sometimes 6, and they also dont die nearly as much as my last guild, so i am looking at a fraction of the potion, poison, and repair costs...i may just make the switch after all. either way, i am gonna work my butt off to get to 70 and eventually both my scouts are gonna hit 80

p.s. i am REALLY hoping in ROK for some good attainable bows...as in nice legendary or fabled whose stats dont suck and you dont have to be in a 5 night a week raid guild to get...i mean, come on...bow selection sucks for all tiers...i know SOE hates us, but come on,lol.

p.s.p.s. thanks again for the answers...helped me make a descision

Once you get about lvl 53 or so, you can go do the bugs quest in TT of KOS. They are fast, easy, and repeatable about 5 times and there are 4 of them I believe. The guy gives you about 9 gold each. That is almost 2 plat right there. Then, below the falls are 3 other quest givers that have 3 quests each that can be repeated about 5 times. These guys also give about 9 gold each. 6 of the quests are gather quests you can handle invis on various isles. The last 3 are kill quests for very common mobs on the main isle. There is another char that gives 1 quest that is repeatable multiple times also and gives the same reward. All in all, you can get a decent set of plat for doing these quests. They are fast and easy to do.If you are 50 on your swash, I would recommend doing those quests just for the plat.
