I'm using Windows Vista and have tried the advice listed elsewhere but it's not working for me. I run Everquest II as administrator, it spends several minutes telling me it's updating, then it just stops. Right now, it's telling me "Download Cancelled", even though I haven't cancelled anything. I've tried it half a dozen times and I get the same result every time.Any ideas?

Been running like this for the 11 months that Vista has been gold (installed gold Vistas in Novemebr 07 with the technet install), and though out the closed beta testing for Vista.first, locate the following files.

LP_plugin.exeEQ2.exeEverQuest2.exethen for each one, right click them and then choose properties. from there you should see a button to "run as administrator" or something similar, i am not at my vista machine, so i cant remember exactly. in that window, look down it, and a little ways down, you will see a checkbox that does the same thing, but when checked, it runs each time the app is run and does not require you to do it each time it is run. also, there is a checkbox for the compatibility options. check that checkbox, and then make sure it is set to windows xp SP2 in the drop down just underneath it. it defaults to xp SP2, but i am just covering all the bases. then, if there is a button at the bottom of the window that says "apply" click it, then click ok. if there is no "apply" button, then just click ok. now, when you run from the shortcut on the desktop, you do not need to set it to run as admin every time you start it, and you should not have the LP_plugin error any longer either.also, it is a good idea to right click the station and EQ2 folders under sony in Program Files, and make sure the folder permissions for read-only is not checked. this will allow the patcher and the launcher to write patches to the folders if patches need to be done.

or try my suggestion:

Launch MSCONFIG from the Run menu.

Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAP". Click on that line.

Press the Launch button.

A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.

Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.

Note that you can re-enable UAC by selecting the "Enable UAP" line and then clicking on the Launch button.

Be sure enable it after word.

Okay, tried both suggestions. For the first one, I was unable to find LP_plugin.exe. Found the other two okay but the option to run as administrator is greyed out for both of them. I run my computer as an administrator anyway so I guess it's greyed out because it's running by default. For the second suggestion (do you mean UAC?), I disabled the godawful UAC 5 minutes after installing Vista so it can't be that causing problems.Tried running the installer again. Got the same problem. Updates for several minutes then the download just stops and says it's been cancelled.
