Tracking in PvP is an essential part of your job. This thread is dedicated to tracking tips in order to assist you to track more effectively.

The Track Window

As shown above you have the standard track window. This window consists of several parts, 3 main filters and the Track Display.

Type Filter -This filter allows you to specify what type of things your track will display. It is located in the upper most left corner of your track window and is a drop down menu.

Track All (Both Player Characters (PC) and Non Player Characters (NPC))

Track PC's (Player Characters)

Track NPC's (Non Player Characters)

Condition Filter - This filter allows you do adjust what Condition (con color) is tracked. The solid colored circles on the top left.

Displays what Conditions will be tracked

Can be toggled on and off by clicking

Name Filter - This filter allows you to filter based on a name or partial name. It is located just below the Type Filter and Condition Filter and is an editable text box

No entry into this field is the default "non-filtered" tracking. Everything that is not filtered will be displayed.

Entry of a name, or partial name will filter track to only contain that specific PC or NPC. (ex. Entering "wolf", will only display any name containing wolf, where as entering "wo" would display objects with wo such as Wolverine, wolf etc.

Track Display - This portion of the track window displays the items that are currently within track range. Objects that are filtered out will NOT appear in this window.

Be aware of what items you have filtered out.

Tips

Always have track open: Take care in knowing that if track is closed and you engage in combat, PvP or otherwise, track will be unavaliable until combat has ended. This also includes transportatoin such as Griffons, Horses, Clouds etc. Keeping track open before battle ensures you will not be in the dark.

See items: Seeing is half the battle, and if your tracked PC or NPC is stealthed or invis it will not show up on track unless you have the abilty to see it. Seeing all is a MUST for a veteran PvP'er

Tracking: Be aware that track can have a delay and can become buggy. Refreshing track (close and then reopen) can solve some track problems. Using the "path" that is sometimes given to you by track is not recommened as an accurate direction in PvP. Supliment using the "path" by also opening your map to view the objects location in relation to yours. The map gives a much more accruate representation of your tracked object

How do I know who I am tracking?: The use of the /who command is priceless in this situation. Should a name appear on track that you do not recognize you can use the /who name command to see if they are friendly or not. /who killque for example would produce one of 3 results 1.) (Anoynomous) Killque 2.) 45 Dirge Killque or 3.) should you see 1 or 2 as a result the name is non-hostile and is of your faction, however if the result is 3, your target is hostile and proceed with caution. "/who name" can also be shortened to "/ partialname" (eg / kil) This example will display all names in the zone that contain kil that are friendly. If you recieve multiple results besure to look at each one or narrow down your search by adding more letters / killq

What condition is my target?: Should you require to find out the condition of a target you are tracking, the Condition filter will be what you want to use to determine this. Toggling on and off the various condition filters will cause your target to disapear from your Track Display. (eg. If your tracked target is too far away to display a condition color on the Track Display, and you toggle the green off and the name remains on the Track Display, your target is NOT green. If you then toggle blue off and the name disapears, your target is Blue. This filter coupled with the /who filter can allow you to make a more accurate decision as to your, or your group's actions. When using the condition filter, it is wise to toggle them off and then immediately back on so you are not left not tracking a specific con. Also using the condition filter to permantly remove red or grey targets can assist you in accurately tracking when solo or in a specific range group.

Tracked object disapears: using your map to view the tracked item can give you a direction and speed of travel. If you notice the object is moving extremely fast, the tracked item is most likely using transport such as a Griffon. If the object is moving at normal speed, and just disapears from track, it may have exceeded the range of your track, or your see invis/stealth may have worn off. You may need to refresh your see totem. If the target has just exceeded your range, because you used your map to view its direction of travel, you will have an idea on where to go to find your target and can continue the persuit.
