Hi All. I am a relatively new player, and this is a general query post about playing as a swashbuckler. My first character was a ranger. I find I like the scout class - especially being able to go places I should not be! however, as I played into the teens I found I was relying mostly on melee combat. I was enjoying the scout melee CAs - like stunning and moving to flank or rear etc. I read about kiting, and tried it a bit, but didnt get into it. It seems like alot of trouble and effort and is useless anyway in dungeons. So I thought ..I need a scout class with ranged capability, for pulling etc, but with its emphasis on melee, and with a real solo ability. So...would the swashbuckler class be a good choice, or have you any other suggestions? If yes, any other basic starter hints or links would be welcome. Thanks.

Yes it would. Swashbucklers have the least positional based attacks and can stand 'toe to toe' soloing heroic content better than the other scout classes. Kiting will not be necessary. We have the generic scout stun, and can use our invis attack and one of the AoE's if necessary to stun a mob for one of the 3 back attacks. Also, larger encounters will fall easier to a swashbuckler due to our better AoE skills and passive frontal auto-attack, which can proc poisons such as vitality breach (lifetap). Rogue defense stances also offer a mitigation increase on top of our already stellar avoidance.

At lvl 70 with all four buffs active, you can hit and maintain a short (10-13 second) burst of 4k+ dps. We also have more hp than any other scout class, except maybe brigands. Needless to say, if you're going to get smacked around, more health is good.

The most important aspect of a swash wasn't touched on though, we do all these things and we look better than anyone else doing it too After all to be swash means to be style

yeah, my current mains are a ranger and swashy. my personal taste is the ranger, but they are so gimped its pointless really making him my main, cause everything i have tried to do with him my swashy did better,[Removed for Content]...

not only do swashys have awsome dps and utility capabilities, they can tank in a pinch and work great solo, duo, trio, group, and raid.

it takes a certain insane person like myself to enjoy kiting, using roots snares and stuns to barely be able to take down a mob...and reminds me of a cross between my swashy and wizard. its not for everyone and if you dont enjoy kiting or positional attacks but like scouts...then swashy is for you!
