View Full Version : Launcher misbehaving, re-downloading files.

Every time I start the EQ2 Launcher, it does a full file scan (which takes ages) and then proceeds to download the same file each and every time: char_exp03_global_02.vpk.I've tried deleting this file and letting the launcher get it again, but it still downloads it every time.I've tried re-installing the whole game from the EoF all-in-one pack, but that thing refuses to patch and instead cancels the patching process after downloading the file Char_mounts.vpk. I finally managed to install and patch the game using the Station Launcher beta, which would be ok, if it'd let me play my characters that are on EU servers. So now I'm stuck with either not being able to play at all, or waiting 5 minutes for the launcher to scan and download files I already have every time I start it up.I just wanted to play some EQ2 <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

I have the same problem, every time I start the launcher it scans and downloads char_exp03_global_02.vpk I did a clean install two days ago, tried it on two computers - so I'm guessing the file you get from the patch server somehow does not match what the scan thinks it should. Those of you that have and "old" file, have one that matches and thus are not getting the mismatched one from patcher.Hope it gets fixed soon, apart from the annoyance of downloading 50megs every time, it prevents me from starting two clients on the same pc (can't patch a file thats locked by a running client - might work with duplicate installs).

Please read my post in the following thread for a possible explanation to this issue: Link

I did as suggested, which took some time since the launcher made me redownload different files. But each time I relaunch the game I still have to download Char_exp03_global_02.vpk

I would suggest trying again once the Euro servers are patched with GU39. The problem might be that that particular file has to be changed between versions so it's getting re-downloaded. Hopefully once both regions have the same versions this won't be an issue any longer.

Was there ever a definitive answer on this?

Mine seemed to started after downloading the new Station Launcher and installing, then after looking around the forums, seeing that it doesn't work on EU Servers (SOE Guys - you need to warn people about that until it does work) then doing a system restore to get rid of it (no uninstall path exists for it yet)

Since then, everytime i log in it downloads global02.vpk file.

I've changed to EnglishUS on the accept/decline screen and patched that, then back to EU (dunno if it does anything, just going off what I've read) and I've deleted the file from my EQ2 directory to see if downloading a fresh copy works.. but alas, nothing

Soooo.. any news?

Thanks

we petitioned this, and the GM's answer was "do a full file scan", which clearly didn't help just gonna wait and see what's happens after tomorrow's patch on the EU servers...and hope it'll let me transfer after that too

another thing to try would be to delete the offending files in your EQ2 folder, and then let the patcher re-download the full, complete file again. normally the patcher only downloads the portion of code that has changed in a file and patches it in to the file. this saves bandwidth when downloading files. if for some reason the patch to a file is corrupted, the patcher will still attempt to patch it in, thus corrupting the entire file, and as such, the patcher can be locked into a loop of re-downloading the same file over and over. deleting the file entirely sometimes fixes it.
I started playing again after 8 months and got the same annoying problem....

I have temporarily got round this by launching from the everquest2.exe file and bypassing the station launcher, just need to keep an eye on the forums for when GU39 comes out then switch back again. This only stops the patch downloading everytime though and not the missing races.

There is no workaround (except for everquest2.exe) or fix yet for the repeated downloading of Char_exp03_global_02.vpk on the EU installation?I tried a full file scan or to copy it over from the US installation but no luck...

The only workaround that works for me is the one Kryostorm suggested, and it works fine
