View Full Version : How do I use the warlock pet?

I performed a search and couldn't find a post on this.  Either I totally suck at being a Necro ( a definite possibility) or the warlock pet is almost completely unuseable in confined spaces.  I was with a group in Fallen Gate and every time I sick my warlock pet on the MT's target, he AOEs and brings the entire zone on our group.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Hmm, sounds like your tank was body pulling a mob and you sent in your warlock too early. In that case the mob calls for help and you get social aggro from mobs nearby although they are not directly linked to the pulled mob. You more or less killed the whole purpose of body pulling that way. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />" />Just be careful when tank body pulls mobs and wait till the mob is pulled back a little if social mobs are nearby.

<p>It is really important to make sure the tank locks aggro before you send in spooky.  I used to make the mistake of sending in right away before tank even hit the mob and I would always get aggro.</p><p>I have never seen what you describe however.  I am pretty sure the AOE spells pets get are encounter based only, so they should not aggro mobs around the area unless they call for help as the above poster suggested.</p>

If you have your pet toggled to 'protect me' and the tank's target casts an aoe spell while incoming, then the pet will start attacking automatically and may activate social aggro.  To avoid this, always have pets toggled to their 'do nothing' mode when grouping in dungeons.None of the warlock pet's abilities are PBAOE, just encounter aoes; however since they do hit the entire encounter if the tank is body pulling a member of a multimob encounter and the pet attacks then it may hit mobs further away that are close to social aggro mobs, hence the 'entire zone on top of you.'

Yeah, what they all said. They warlock pet is easy to use. Just point it at your foe and tell it to attack... just make sure to wait until the mob is out of social aggro range. :p

<p>most of the time the tank will pull to a certain spot. this is so you can fight in a "safe "spot. i usualy target the tank.you will see the tanks target come up when he aquires it. wait untill the target is at 99 or 98 health before you send your pet in, this will ensure that the pet dosn't pull aggro.</p><p> also be sure that you are using the correct buff on your mage pet.there is an offensive stance for your mage pet and a defensive stance for your tank pet.</p>

Especially in dungeons I often end up with the pet standing behind a wall trying to cast. It just stands there doing nothing. On other occasion it actually runs away when it is being beaten by a mob, potentially getting more adds.Is there any way to tell the mage pet to go into melee? This would help with the "not casting through wall" problem and it adds a small amount of damage due to auto attacks, too.

I wish when you resummon a pet, it would remember it's last settings that you assigned to it. I hate forgetting to turn off Defend Self/Me toggles after a resummoning. If I create a macro to summon a pet, is it possible to pass those toggles?

Not that it helps.

For the very same reasons I have the summon pet and pet buffs on 2 different hot buttons. Put the /pet commands to the buffs and you should be fine
