View Full Version : Scrap the tank

We will never be real tank material, so I think we should scrap it pretty much all together and go more for dps plus utility. things like a small increase in runspeed would be nice, considering I youd think real martial killers would be faster. Just things to make us more unique rather than just not good tanks, not good enough dps. which is what we are now.

<p>ok im not a big fan of the if you dont like it re roll argument, but in this case i have to say its all that comes to mind</p><p>brawlers were always (since before eq2 was even released) pitched as tanks, for a time they were said to be equal to plate tanks, but obviously thats has never happened, but is an argument for another thread. the point is there ment to be tanks, they are tanks, they can tank. if this isnt to your taste then either play a bruiser as a slightly underpowered scout or re roll.</p><p>but please please dont try to get a class that is highly enjoyed by many altered to be "just an other dps class"</p>

Increase in runspeed doesn't make sense in making you a better, worse or different tank.  Runspeed just gets you there quicker (or helps you run away, but with feign dead that's a bit pointless).  Maybe an increase in in-combat attack speed would make more sense? That is unless the point is to be able to catch up with the Fury who is running away from the battle quicker than you are? <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />Bruisers and monks are fun to play as they are now, but I agree that they can be frustrating at the top end as Main Tanks (or any kind of tank in some peoples eyes).

I would like to see some changes to increase the dps of the brawler class. Face it a well equipped brig/swash with the right AAs can tank pretty well all group content, but they also can do a lot of damage. I would like to see the same for the brawler class, able to tank all instances but also able to out dps berserkers and shadowknights and doing as much damage as a rogue.

I have read just about every post in the Monk/Bruiser forums and have been thinking of many different ways to try to fix brawlers all the while I watch as the class becomes more and more irrelevant. I am really at a loss as of what to do. I can say that bringing over Brawlers from EQ1 was a mistake when they picked the classes for EQ2. After all EQ2 is not a martial arts type of game. Every time I log into my Bruiser I feel like I am bringing a knife to a gun fight. Looking at the way things have gone Beastmasters would have been a better choice to import from EQ1 than either brawler.

<p>What SOE needs to do is to make avoidance tanking a BETTER option than mit tanking. We all know that the effectiveness of your mit goes down as you face higher mobs. Avoidance should do this as well, but not at such a steep decline. Like say that if mit decreases by 3% per level above you the mob is above you, avoidance would only go down by 1%.</p><p>Also, they need to make epic mobs NOT ignore avoidance... this is just a giant slap in the face of brawlers and should be removed.</p><p>Other than that, I have no idea what to do. Though I would like to see avoidance work correctly... I hate having 60% avoidance, and be facing blue ^^^ mobs and yet I seem to get hit EVERY darn time!</p>

<p>bralwer tank work <= ROG tank work ,on higher Lvl encounter and raidavoid tank is bad. mit tank is more better for keeping.</p><p>recently, plate tank have mit and avoid with item ,adorn, and AA.</p><p>brawler is bad tankbrawler is bad dps</p><p>what SOE want to do brawler?</p>

The first key is what mobs "ignore."  Personally, I don't think a mob should "ignore" anything. Even if the mob is level 900, and my pants are only lvl 10... I'm still wearing armor, and last I checked, this isn't an anime where the mob has magical clothing kaboom touch and when he hits me my level 10 pants explode to expose my panties.Secondly, this concept of 'uncontested avoidance' should go right down the drain.  Avoidance is Avoidance. If it says 65% vs a lvl 70 mob, then hot [Removed for Content], I should be dodging 65% of a lvl 70 mobs' attacks. If you're going to play funny games with what the % actually means, then give us a more detailed list when we mouse over it, that says you can dodge 65% of a lvl 70 3-down mobs attacks, but a lvl 70 epic x4 your dodge rate is really only 2% (exaggerated for effect). Next... avoidance tanking should NEVER be 'better' than mitigation tanking. When it is, there's an uproar from the whole community of non-brawlers that our omnipotence has reached astounding levels that are gamebreaking.  HOWEVER... I stress again that if you simply fix the absurd notion that somehow the mobs care exponentially less about avoidance than mitigation, you'd see most of the change needed to bring us in line with other tank classes. We still would not be 'preferred' vs a mit tank because spike damage is harder to heal, but we would be a far more viable choice for 70+ heroic areas and epics where you just need to get the job done.My biggest problem is that in all the calls and demands for equality of this, equality of that, the whole idea of the class curve from  Best Tank, Least Utility, Least DPS    -> Guardian Middle Tank, Best Utility, Middle DPS  ->Crusader / Berserker Least Tank, Middle Utility, Best DPS   -> Brawler Has been horribly ravaged by continuous complaints about plates not being good enough at anything other than getting hit, and crusaders about not being good enough at anything, that brawlers have been relegated to the trash heap in terms of AA skills and and value of avoidance vs mitigation. Now I know there's a portion of the community out there that says we're fine on this or that or the other thing... But in the overall picture, we're not what we should be.

<p>Kaycerzan-</p><p>I think you are spot on and I think the great majority of brawlers out there agree. Now if SoE would just read this and make some changes. By changing this they're only gonna make alot of people enjoy/continue playing the game.</p>

Fix mitigation in raiding, that's all they need to do.  I've tanked in Unrest, and while hard, far from impossible.  We <i>don't</i> need to be DPS, we don't much need a tanking fix, just in raids which are too much for the average bruiser.
