Hi, just started eq2 yesterday and choose a guard. Im having alot of trouble killing mobs my lvl and even 2-3 lvls lower than me, Im lvl 13 btw. I have been using a one hander and shield, would I be better off using a two hander? I typically starting off with a shield bash, then the heroic oppurtunity > crumble > then whatever is blinking, rinse repeat. Am I doing this all wrong, getting pretty frustrated. Thanks for any replies.

You might be trying to kill Heroic mobs. Make sure they are not heroic and you shouldn't have any problems as long as you stick to normal mobs and don't try to fight more than one encounter at a time. The heroic mobs are meant for a group of players...not solo.Make sure you are using your new Combat Arts you get at each level and upgrade them if you can to Apprentice IV or higher off the broker. Also, if you can afford it upgrade your weapon if it is still from the beginning isle zone. A weapon closer to your level will help a lot if you are still using a level 5 weapon or something. Also, if you have died more than 10 times make sure you repair your equipment. There is a big red message that tells you to repair if your equipment is broken so I am sure you know that but you just started so I just wanted to make sure you knew.

Ladsud wrote:
Hi, just started eq2 yesterday and choose a guard.
Well there's your problem. I recommend, unless you're dead set on playing a Guardian, to switch to a more beginner friendly class. Playing a Guardian can be pretty unforgiving for a newcomer to EQ2. You'll probably have an easier time learning the game with any of the Mage classes, any of the Scout classes, or a Monk/Bruiser.Now, if you do want to play a Guardian, follow the advice given. Keep your gear updated (always wear Plate armor), your combat arts at least Apprentice IV quality, switch to Offense stance for soloing, don't fight Heroic mobs by yourself, etc. Perhaps ditch the shield, and dual wield when you're soloing instead; you can equip a one handed weapon in each hand.

As a plate tank your defining ability is wearing plate armour and you need to keep it up with your level. You are high enough to have out-leveled your starting armour, and need to have upgraded it, at least to level 10 handcrafted iron armour. If you have good armour you can fight in offensive stance with a two hander, or duel wielding. At level 14 you will get to upgrade one of your CAs to Master II - that can help a lot. Mining any ore nodes you find is worth doing. A rare metal can be turned into a piece of mastercrafted armour and a rare loam can be used to upgradeone of you skills to adept III.

Dualwielding is good for soloing, it also gives you a good oppertunity to train all 3 weapon skills. the downside is that you lose the shield bash, as it requires a shield to work. But guardians are not ment to solo, we need healers etc. What you might wanna do is to stick to doing quests and killing low blue or even green conned mobs (without any arrows up) should give you enough exp to rise thro ugh the levels. But try to find groups with a heal er in them this is the place the guardian comes into his own.

Ladsud, what server do you play on by chance? I'd be more than happy to help out with some skills and gear upgrades. Everyone is giving great advice here though. Any Adept 1 skills that drop that aren't for your class, keep then and sell them on the broker, its a good way to make money for low level characters. Try to seek out groups, as its a hard life for guardians trying to solo. Possibly look into joining a new player friendly guild. Hitting " U " (default shortcut key) will open up the guild browsing window. Should be plenty of people willing to help you out Lemme know what server your on and follow the advice from people above its good. The lower levels for guardians kind of suck in general, but it gets better
