Prelude: Birth in Battle"Man the oars you slime!"The tall and imposing Iksar stood angrily as the two ogre slaves got to work, joining the rest of the captives rowing the oars, navigating the great warship. Among them were several Kerra, a few Frogloks, a couple of Humans. The Iksar smirked wickedly as he watched theslaves get to work, and then he went above deck. Iksar ran the ship; some were warriors, others were scouts. Several Defiler Shamans began to pray feverently to Cazic Thule as the mighty captain began to bark out orders in the tongue of his people - Sebasilim."Prepare for combat! We must not let Venril's supporters live! We must show faith in Cazic Thule! When we get close, we will board their ship and slay them all! No prisoners!"Just then one of the female Iksar came out of the cabin shouting, "Warlord Rizzgrill! Your mate...""What of her?" The Warlord growled."Your son... he has hatched!"Rizzgrill's eyes lit up, "Men! Prepare for glory! Fight for Cazic! Fight for the true Empire! Fight for your mates! Fight for your hatchlings!""Sir!" a startled Iksar cried out, "They crept up behind us like a viper! They are boarding our ship!""Then fight on and let them know Cazic's fear!" Rizzgrill shouted angrily. He unsheathed his sword and widened his eyes when he saw his enemies were not Venril's Iksar - but a rogue band of ogres. Trying to retrieve the slaves? Rizzgrill couldn't tell but he would still fight on. Lunging forward, blade met blade, yet the ogre shoved the Warlord back. Rizzgrill hissed and thrust his blade forward, striking the ogre's breastplate, yet it did not pierce. Pulling back, he slashed at his attacker again, barely missing as the ogre lumbered back, yet as it did, another Iksar finished the job as a spear burst through the ogre's chest."Spears Warlord," the spearmen said with a grin, "Spears are the nightmare of those who keep out of reach."Rizzgrill chuckled, "So it would seem."Turning, the Warlord narrowly ducked as an executioner's style axe whizzed past his head, slicing off a thin layer of his scales. Rizzgrill stood back up and slammed the butt of his blade into the ogre's face before slicing his foe's head clean off its shoulders."For Cazic!""Warlord... look!"Rizzgrill snapped his attention to one of his warriors. He realized battle had stopped as did the ship. The crew and the ogres stared up at the night sky. Rizzgrill looked up as well and his eyes widened once more. Luclin... the great moon splitin half. Bits and pieces began to rain down from the sky."Men! Brace yourselves... where is Thrizzik?"One of the warriors glanced over, "Who?""My hatchling... my son. If I die, get him to safey.""Yes Warlord."Rizzgrill watched as a large piece of the room fell right towards Kunark, and he murmured quietly, "May Cazic save us all."

Chapter I - First Kill

The young hatchling cried out in agony and horror as he felt the lash of the whip. His arms were bound at the wrists around a large pillar. His tale was shackled to a large spiked ball and chain. His face was blindfolded. Five years of age, and the hatchling was being tortured. The one performing such a heinous act did so with a stoicism that could be considered unsettlign to most. Another Iksar it was, one that had the markings of a warrior. The barbed ridges of his head made his body a weapon. His tale had barbs stuck into it - a creation of his own twisted mind. He wore armor that was simple chainmail, yet it matched the color of his dark black scales. The Iksar that performed the torture did not stop, he did not flinch at his gruesome work as he lashed the young hatchling again and again.

"You will do as you are told whelp!" The adult snarled.

The hatchling merely growled and hissed in pain, not seeing, merely hearing his punisher. The rest of his surroundings were unknown to him - he heard the crickets chirping - a sign that night had fell - yet he did not know where he was. He knew it was on that Island... that blasted Island. That was all the hatchling comprehended as blood leaked from his cracked and broken scales as the whip came crashing down onto his body, defiling him again and again.

His punisher snarled, "Tell me what I wish to hear!"

Again a mere outcry of pain.

"Tell me what I wish to hear!"

"I..." The hatchling gasped out loud, "...serve... Cazic Thule."

"And why?!" The adult demanded.

"I... fear... him."

"Who else do you fear?"

"...you."

The adult growled as he dropped the whip, and ripped the bindings off of the hatchlings wrists, and removed the blindfold. The hatchling looked up at the adult, who merely spit at the hatchling, just before kicking the child to the ground.

The adult snarled, "Do not presume I am Cazic Thule's equal. To do so is to speak the words of a Heretic! Are you a Heretic whelpling?!"

The hatchling shook his head.

"Prove it!"

The hatchlings eyes went wide, "How?"

"Did I give you permission to speak?!" The adult cried in outrage, before kicking the hatchling to a prostrate form. "No! I DIDN'T! You will prove you only fear the Faceless by doing as I say! And do you know what that means? It means... you are going to do EXACTLY what I tell you to do! And what you are going to do is make your first kill! Do you understand me WHELP?!"

The Hatchling nodded his head once.

"Good. Now listen up real close whelp. Look around your surroundings. We are just a few yards from the outpost. The Overlord of the softskins has his ships on the way to pick us up, but until they get here, you will do as I say, and you will do as the others say. Go through the brush and you will see a softskin pet of the Queen of the pathetic city of Qeynos. A Tunarian. You will slay the Tunarian with your bare hands and with no armor. Do this and you prove me wrong... by showing you do not fear it!"

The hatchling nodded once.

"GO!"

The hatchling nodded once, and limped away from the encampment. The child crept through the underbrush - though unfortunately - he was not quiet, for twigs snapped under his reptilian feet. The snap of the twigs brought unwanted attention as an elf - a high elf - lowered a bow aimed at the way of the hatchling. The arrow was nocked and pulled back. Death would come if the child did not act - yet act the child did as the young Iksar went after the feet of the Tunarian, tripping the elf up, causing him to fall on his face and drop the bow. The elf rolled onto his back, yet the young Iksar did not hesitate as he pounced on his prey. His hands wrapped around the elfs neck, choking the life from him. The hatchling let out a young growl as he choked... and choked... and his thumb pierced the neck of his prey. The elf gurgled up blood, and his eyes rolled up into the back of his head... and then he was dead.

The Iksar Hatchling quickly scurried back to the encampment. Blood dripped from his claws, where he had punctured the elf's throat. The tall adult smirked and stepped up to the hatchling.

"You did as I commanded?"

The hatchling nodded, "Yes."

The adult growled, "I told you...." But before he finished his sentence, he grabbed the hatchling by the throat and slammed him against the pillar, retying his wrists to the pillar. "Who do you fear?!" the adult roared as he put the blindfold on once more, before resuming the whipping.

This time there were no outcries of pain.

No fear surged through the hatchling.

Thrizzik Drexxiliz had killed for the first time.

He saw this cruel torture as a reward... indeed... as the whip drew fresh blood from the hatchling's scales, the child known as Thrizzik smiled grimly.

It was the beginning of the life of a warrior.
