Here is a simple and easy way to get your Vista Machine running EQ2, patching, and playing.1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Double click on the program launch icon. Another thing you have to do after compatibility set. NOTE: Each time you start the application this MUST be done! 1. Right click EQ2 desktop shortcut 2. Select run as system administrator 3. Select allow The program will run normal, but remember to do this everytime you go to log in and play. The UAC in Vista will not allow you to run that program as a user. You HAVE to run the program as system admin everytime on your machine. Poof your worries will dissapear if you do so. The UAC cancels updates in the login screen so it will seem as if your downloading over and over again. Try this and let me know I run a Vista Home Premium Laptop myself and have no problems as long as I'm running XP compatibilty and start the application this way everytime. Also go in and allow full access on the security settings for the progam you can do that in properties if you go into your drive where your main files are stored. You have to right click the .exe file and go into those properties. If you have any other problems let me know. I think I figured out most of the EQ2 bugs I had. I have 2.0 Duo Core 7300 Nividia GForce GO 2G Ram Windows Vista Home Premium Here you go Vista users now you can game

@TrebosI don't want to turn this thread into a flamewar over UAC, but it is in Vista for a reason.I think asking the average user to disable it, is the wrong idea.It does serve a security use and turning off could expose the user to unwanted software installs/execution.What Patrickhvr wrote, from my own vista experiences, is probably the best method for the average Vista user.T

This keeps from having even further Vista problems. Please leave your UAC on if your an average PC user.

Turning off the UAC is the only thing that allows me to patch the game.

Are people getting all these problems because they're installing to 'C:Program Files'? I install all my games to 'C:Games' and not had any problems with any game running in Vista 32 and 64bit. With EQ2 as long as I right-click the launch shortcut and select 'Run as Administrator' the first time after installation I've never had to do this again and have no issues lauching or patching with Vista.

Keep in mind that this helps the MAJORITY of the people, but it may not help everyone with vista. Been running like this for the 11 months that Vista has been gold (installed gold Vistas in Novemebr 07 with the technet install), and though out the closed beta testing for Vista.first, locate the following files.

LP_plugin.exeEQ2.exeEverQuest2.exethen for each one, right click them and then choose properties. from there you should see a button to "run as administrator" or something similar, i am not at my vista machine, so i cant remember exactly. in that window, look down it, and a little ways down, you will see a checkbox that does the same thing, but when checked, it runs each time the app is run and does not require you to do it each time it is run. also, there is a checkbox for the compatibility options. check that checkbox, and then make sure it is set to windows xp SP2 in the drop down just underneath it. it defaults to xp SP2, but i am just covering all the bases. then, if there is a button at the bottom of the window that says "apply" click it, then click ok. if there is no "apply" button, then just click ok. now, when you run from the shortcut on the desktop, you do not need to set it to run as admin every time you start it, and you should not have the LP_plugin error any longer either.also, it is a good idea to right click the station and EQ2 folders under sony in Program Files, and make sure the folder permissions for read-only is not checked. this will allow the patcher and the launcher to write patches to the folders if patches need to be done.
