I am returning from a 5 month break and have started a new toon. So far he is a crafter and I am debating whether or not to make him a carpenter or a woodworker. I already have a level 50 armourer and a level 50 provisioner.

The way I see it, carpenters can make really neat house items and strongboxes but probably do not make a ton of money. Woodworkers will make things that like arrows that may have no use for my characters but would probably sell decently. I know no tradeskill class makes a ton of money but I was wondering which one of the two have people had the most fun/reward with?

woodie will make more money due to consumables... however... i do prefer my carpenter over my woodie simply because i love decorating my houses... both are pretty low if you count the number of recipes though. i'd say it comes down to personal preference... or, since they made lvling easier, why not both?

I don't know about woodworkers although I buy from them a lot it seems. I do have a level 49 carpy now though. I have to say it's been nice to have the carpenter when I needed to upgrade houses for my toons. I could pre-make all the stuff I needed for status and just move in without fuss. And of course I can outfit all my toons with boxes too with is very nice. Given all that...I did not make much money at all until I hit level 40. The furniture business is glutted with lower tier things. I ended up selling most back to the merchants. I do make money on the alters but I had to invest an upfront cost for the recipe book to make them. I think I am finally making money on them now but it has taken nearly 10 levels. Once I struck level 40 however, brokered house items started selling fast. Cedar is usually dirt cheap on broker and you can easily turn a 9 gold into a 30-40 gold by crafting a house item that is unique. Chairs and tables are low sellers. Rugs, paintings, shelves, chandeliers and sconces are high sellers.

I have a feeling over the first 40 levels woodworkers make much more. So I guess it depends of what you want to do with your toons which would work better for you.

That's a tough choice. I love both my woodworker and my carpenter

I love to decorate my house and my alts houses and those strongboxes come in handy when you have alot of toons that need them in their bank slots!!! I usually only do tradeskill writs with my carpenter. Her items never seem to sell on the broker Woodworkers can make totems and weapons which almost any toon can use, so that's always nice. If your looking to only sell items on the broker, then go with the woodworker. If you really can't decide, then make one of each. They both make neat stuff

Carpenter is a class only useful for those who want to make their own furniture in my opinion. Strongboxes aren't very expensive so I don't think it's a good argument to include them.

Woodworker can make useful things for you and your alts as well as always have something that sells on the market. You will never be done making stuff on your WW. Totems and ammo will always sell and you can always use them for yourself as well.

Both are worthwhile but for very different reasons.

eh...I wouldn't say ANYTHING. True, carpenter was my first TS so I had no idea the differences when I first came to the game. Knowing what I do now, I probably would go with a WW. It's much more of what I am looking for in a crafter. That said....I prefer my carpenter over my weaponsmith with is just about as useless as you can get. He is the writ monkey of my TS team. As painful as levelling my carpy has been, I am now seeing profit. I am not so into decorating my houses as I am into getting the precious house slots for selling. Being able to up the house status instantly upon move-in has been a boon.

Since you can repsec your tradeskill class the initial choice isn't as critical as it once was, lol.Pick the one you LIKE!

I have one of each crafter and all are T7 except my sage.

Carpenter advantages - make your own furniture, boxes and altars. Best selling item - Repair kit.

Woodworker advantages - makes lots of consumables and general use items. Best selling item - various totems: invis, power regen, speed, etc.

You want to know what class is going to make the most money for you right?I would suggest asking Tradeskillers on your server, for me with level 70's of both on Splitpaw its the Carpenter. No matter how much ammo/totems I make, the Carp can make that money and more from Rare items.Looking towards Rok:Well the Woodworkers rare weapon market will be even smaller thanks to the Epic weapons being introduced.Everyone will want new T8 common boxes. ( Carps make them)With the cost of repairing in T8 with the mender-bot becoming even more expensive with the increase in Tier, I would hazard a guess that using repair kits to mend will be much more economical and how the vast majority of guilds repair in raids, except for a few who pay for their members repairs. Although even then it will probable work out cheaper to get your guild Carp to make a ton of repair kits rather than pay for members repairs.

Which ever one you decided on, I'd still roll a toon jsut for the other. My Ranger is my WW, since I need the arrows, and I have a low adventure level carpenter just so I can make house items. Let the WW do the harvesting for them boht, then yoiu don't have to choose at all.

If the character in question is also an adventurer, woodworker would be more helpful from an adventuring point of view. My woodworker uses portable woodworking stations to make totems and arrows when I run out. I have also made bucklers, shields and staffs "on the road". I can't think I have ever run into a need for carpentry items that couldn't wait until I was back in town.
