Warlock > *

Hands down, if you want to devistate in PvP, a Warlock is the choice to make. We get more defensive tools than a Wizard. The only thing a Wizard has over a Warlock is the ability to quickly kill an opponent, and with resists that can turn sour real fast. Warlock takes longer, but also has some tools to guarantee longer survivability.

Id go for Warlock anytime.

I leveled a wizzy to 70 and did ok as a pvp'r, ( I raced to 70 and didnt really concentrate on PvP ). Our guild needed a Warlock at the time, so I betrayed and came back. I absolutley love my warlock in pvp. Hands down group pvp we own. I recently went manashield (was raid specced) and now soloing I hold my own, even against 2v1. I would never consider playing a wizzy again. The warlock class, to me, is just a blast to play. I have had so much fun with this toon, that I have all but abandoned my 70 Swashi that was adorned and fabled out.

one more note on wizzy's, like I mentioned above I never really "tried" to pvp on my wizzy. I am sure they are a fun class to play, but I was just leveling a buddy and made this toon to level with him. Now this warlock is my main toon.

Trixee - 70 Swash

Trixeebell - 70 Warlock

My warlock is level 50 and I love PvP'ing with him....... I duo with the wifes 52 wizzy and we kick some pretty major butt. I would venture a guess that it all depends on play style. I had a PvE wizzy way back when and didnt like him at all so he got deleted around level 40 ish. You're really only going to be good at playing a class you enjoy playing unless you make a ranger, then you are a god class by design.

I made a ranger on Naggy for shitzngiggles and deleted him around level 24 with some 500+ kills and 18 deaths. He had destroyer title before his 20th kill. It was really ugly and easy and he wasn't even a Fae race. I think the only thing that gave him trouble was the SK class. otherwise its sheer /easymode on crack.

But on a good note........... I have a better understanding of the class abilities so I do stand a marginal chance vs them when I know they are there and prepare for the attack. I take great pleasure in making them puke and die.

IMO warlock in any case is way better than a wizzie can ever be. Single target? Focused casting and wizard can never touch warlock's single target dps. Group v group? Warlock beats the poor wizzie every single time, even w/o explosions. And with enhanced surviveability and focused casting warlock is less dependant on getting the jump and can even survive getting jumped by a scout. -added-and, btw, most of lock's damage is noxious based (poison+disease), while these resists are usually way lower then elemental ones, and the casting skills self-buff works wonders even vs resist-geared twinks

Wizards get faster cast times on their bigger single target nukes and other spells.

Wizards actually get SNARES.

Wizards get a 8 tick knockback dot that renders other mages useless if they dont cure it.

Wizards get WAY farther cast ranges.

Wizards get UBER damage shield.

Wizards get a Mez with combined faster DPS guarantees victory against warlocks 1v1 when they force the warlock to use manashield first right before casting mez.

Wizards get evac.

Wizard snares > warlock null caress teleport. Warlock teleport has about 50% chance to port enemies (even full groups) directly on top of you ( due to lazy coding ) and also clears their target . Who do you think the whole group will target next? The XYZ point that the enemy was suppose to be teleported to did not work so the coders made the enemy port directly on top of the warlock. This was fine for PVE since it was made for hate decrease and hasn't been fixed for PVP.

Thats just my opinion and why I think wizards are better for 1v1. I played them both and even with warlocks focused casting, wizard should own warlock 1v1 everytime with their faster single target DPS. Wizard snares and damage shields > warlock null caress teleport against melee classes.

Dhye

You can only betray to your class (note, class = sorcerer. Warlock is a subclass)

So if you were a warlock and you betrayed Qeynos, upon returning to either of the citys, you would be told to see a class instructor to become either a warlock or a wizard. No matter which one you chose you still lose all your spells and are reset to Apprentice Is.

If you were a necromancer, you will only get one choice when you return to a city, it'd be either necromancer if evil, or conjuror if good.

Guardian <-> Berserker (neutral)Paladin <-> ShadowknightMonk <-> Bruiser

Warden <-> Fury (neutral)Mystic <-> DefilerTemplar <-> Inquisitor

Troubador <-> Dirge (Neutral)Ranger <-> AssasinSwashbuckler <-> Brigand

Wizard <-> Warlock (Neutral)Conjuror <-> NecromancerIllusionist <-> Coercer

The ones marked with (Neutral) can be taken in either city, otherwise the first one listed is Good alligned, second listed is Evil.

And you have no arcane based debuffs to throw over it to prevent it from being cured 4) the uber dmg shield? Its usefullness vs a mage or casting healer cannot be denied by its proccing of being meleed.. And how about the lvl 40 spell? you might have heard that the one of warlock is approx 100 times better, spetially against scouts, right? Yeah, nullmail always beats mail of frost in provided survivability. 5) a mez? that could be a useful skill if it didnt land less than once in 10 uses. Besides that its just plain uber, oh yea. And a warlock with focused casting will always outdps the poor wizzie in first 15 secs of the fight, while only several classes, mostly shamen and wardens, take warlock so long.

Heh, Id take my Lock up agaisnt a wizzy anyday!!!

Urgol:

I agree Nullmail is way better than wizard version no doubt.

Warlocks don't get fear, their single target root has a fear on termination that RARELY works even in PVE. I am sure you realize most people cure roots anyhow. That is where all of the snares wizards get become a HUGE advantage.

Wizard vs Warlock for Dummies:

If a wizard hits their knockback dot to start then starts casting ice nova it will land about the time the warlock cures the dot. Hit your 3 second interrupt/stifle (also big advantage over warlock daze) then followed by your big fire nuke. The warlock will be at about 20-30% health and prob cast manashield before doing any damage to the wizard. The wizard's next move is to mez the warlock which lasts almost as long as manashield.

Its also good to use your mez if you see warlock's focused casting going up. Your knockback dot can also interrupt a warlock with Focused Casting up.

Dhye

Amongst other classes I have a 70 Wiz and a friend of mine has a 70 warlock it seems to me Nullmail > all with all the ward items he has + propogation + manashield he is one tough fucker as any that fight him would testify I am sure.

However I know one of his hardest fights is a Wizzie

I have a well geared level 70 Ranger and made a new Warlock. Tier for tier so far my Warlock has been far, far more powerful than my Ranger ever was. And at 43 my Warlock is still more powerful than my Ranger, and I'm told by 70 Warlocks, I'll get even more powerful.

Recently I've had multiple exiled Rangers attack me, once two at a time (all 6-8 levels higher than me) and I easily killed them with my Warlock. So I don't know what peoples problems are.

An answer to the OP.. Both are viable, but if you play a Wizard do not do manaburn. I've had a lot of Wizards manaburn me lately and I've easily beat them, even the orange con wizards. My best friend plays a Wizard, and me a Warlock and he outdamages me on a regular basis, but thanks to Nullmail, I have a better survivability than he does.
