Hi all!I finally decided to give my 70 retired defiler another shot, but for some reason I could not get into her as a defiler again, and it took me a LONG time to decide to betray and lose my masters, but I was just not having fun playing her (as I need to solo a lot these days to get my low aa's up) so I wanted to play a healer that could solo and I thought warden but then I was told mystic's melee spec is great for soloing at least... compared to defilers soloing. And I thought hey well that will be easier then leveling up another healer entirely! And I am not a raider so it makes no difference to me who is better on a raid.So anyways I had enough aa's to get the combat arts and some of the agility tree.. but I feel totally lost even though the basic class is the same.. there's a few spells I don't really know what situation I would cast them like Oberon and Torpor, as defilers do not get spells like these. I was just wondering if some experienced mystics can give me an idea of the strategy with using their special spells.. Torpor reduces attack speed so I'm assuming that's not something a tank or melee would want? Also under what situation do you cast bolster? btw I love that growth portion I was casting it on myself for fun.. Also how would I maximize my DPS for melee spec? like I said I am still lower on the AA end but am looking at strength over INT gear.. I am not a raider so anything that requires raiding would be out=)Am I assuming with the melee spec I won't have to buy dmg spells? Or are there dmg spells I still need to buy?btw you guys have way better fun spells, No more making people throw up... and I am glad I am a bear now and not a purple smudge.. PLUS my spell graphics are prettier! Qeynos ain't too shabby eitherThanks all!Manoah 70 Defi..... Mystic!Eveque 70 Brigand/JewelerAntonia Bayle

Hi! Welcome to the world of mystisism! - Torpor is a great spell to cast as it doesn't use up too much power and it does alot of healing over time your tank won't notice if he's thoughly engaged in a battle and is really hurting for a heal. The best way to do it is to cast Torpor then use a Oberon Barrier as the Oberon Barrier regenerates it's ward while the Torpor heals over time. - Bolster is a good way to boost up your tank before taking on a big mob as it increases thier hit points and all thier abilities by quite a bit and should increase his survivability in those first few critical seconds as he gets enough aggro.- If you work down the AA lines you'll fine the 100% melee crit rate makes for some lively DPS from your mystic. Add to that the EoF AA spec to turn your dmg spells into melee attacks and you have yourself a fairly good dps healer.

As the first answer states, you put bolster on the tank just before the pull to increase the HP's as well as the stats by a good amount (20% off the top of my head). So, their agility (along with all the other stats) is increased by 20% making them miss a couple hits in the first moments of the fight.

The best time to cast torpor is:

On the tank just after they have positioned themselves where the fight will take place. The slowing of their attacks is just autoattack, they still use their CAs and taunts like normal. The run speed reduction is why you want to wait until they are in place and not going to move.

On any mage or other healer that takes some damage. They won't be up using their auto attack, so that won't matter to them, but the HoT is a low power way of getting them healed without having to worry about coming back to heal them again.

Getting to know torpor:

Torpor is a very useful skill with 2 4 parts to the spell.1) The first part of torpor is the ward. This is not just a straight ward of X amount (X dependant on spell quality) but a regenerating ward. This means that the ward "size" is say 550, that is the most damage that it will take at one time. However, as time goes on this ward replinshes itself. So say you torpor your tank. He gets hit for 1k damage. The ward absorbs 550 of that damage the tank take 450. A few seconds later you still have not cast anything else, and the mob swings again... 1k damage is flying towards your tank... but because torpor has had time between hits, walla that 550 ward is back. So that 1k is again cut down to 450. Now these are made up swing times on mobs and regen time on torpor. The point is, torpor will keep intercepting damage over time with a ward the entire time it is up with a cap ward amount of healing equal to... initial ward + (regen amount*(duration/regen rate)) I dont have the figures for this equation as Im at work. This aspect of torpor really drives its efficiencay. This is where a lot of the mana to healing ratio comes from.2) The second part of torpor is a small health regen. As this is very straight forward I wont go into a further detail annalysis of it. I will say however that generally speaking the amount of healing that is done by the regen is not worth the mana invested for the health alone. Therefore, you should only use torpor on someone actively being pounded on.3) The third part of torpor is the snare. This is one of the bigger negatives as tanks sometimes need to move around for various reasons. And while they have several abilities that snare themselves, this is one they have no control over. Learn to know when and why tanks need to move. So you can use this well. If you tank says dont use it because I need to go to the mob to get it off the mage, educate the mage that he needs to run to the tank anyway.4) The dread slow portion of torpor! The dread of every tank and dps char out there... Or so they think when they read the spell description. Does it shave off some damage that is being done? Yes. Does it make that big of an impact? No not really. And if a guard ever complains about the slow portion running their dps... remind them that they themselves have abilities that help keep them alive that do the same thing

Bolster, when to cast. Honestly the question of bolster when to cast is a more of a question how lazy are you feeling or how over powered is the group for this area. Ideally you would want to use bolster every pull, everytime something went wrong or just have it up every time it refreshes. But what most settle on, bolster on difficult pulls, use if the poopie is about to hit the fan, and give the necro his jollies.

Max melee in 3 easy steps:1) Step 1 Max crits on the agi line, buy all the CA aa in the eof tree, pick up shield block in the sta tree.2) Find a big club3) SMASH!!!!!(a note on 2 - a big club equals any weapon preferably with a rediculously large damage spread and good dr. aka vraks is pretty popular with 1-400 damage spread and I think it is 4.0 sec delay)

Wow thank you for all that information!, I didn't know torpor regenerated itself=)Also I picked up a blackscale maul which has dmg rating of over 500 for the top, so I thought that would be good? I was using a pike of pain but realized the high dmg was not very high, but the dmg rating is higher, so that does not matter as much?I have yet to max out melee crits but that's next as I mentor to level my aa's up=)I have to say of the few times now I have played as a mystic solo/duo (haven't grouped yet till I learn it more) I enjoy it, especially the combat arts and quick cast times so I don't have to worry about the long cast times in between healing. It's harder then I thought to switch over since the icons all look different so I haven't memorized what spell does what yet by just looking at it! After 70 lvls of the same spell icons its hard to look at totally new ones, so I am quite a bit slower, and not eager to group until I can figure it out more.. I don't want to accidentally wipe a group because I couldn't find the spell I needed.mm what does the pet do exactly? it seems shorter duration then spiritual circle..A few spells I miss, like Defile and Maelstrom, 2 nice group DPS spells for defilers.. and the circle..and the solid dog.. but melee style is just what I needed to enjoy my character again, I am glad I did it!Im gona go solo something now!

Hey there! Just happened to come across this post while lookin on the forums. As the others said, welcome to the world of Mystics I noticed the part of you sayin you are a solo mystic, and you don't raid, so I"ll try to keep that in mind. I myself, do not run the melee spec, since I am a raiding mystic, I put most of my aa's into HP and lowering my recast, etc. But thought maybe I could help in some aspect. I am sure it's hard to change from one class to another at lvl 70, when you are used to the way certain spells/buffs work. We are pretty much the same as defilers, in the sense that we have wards, and wear chain lol. Our heals of course are just pwr takers, not hp and pwr. I personally have a 70 mystic and a 70 defiler, but have been playing the mystic longer. So it's kinda easier for me to see the differences/likeness in them.

Torpor is an amazing spell. Mainly the only time I use that on a tank, is if they are low on hp and I need the extra heals and wards while I am catching up on hp. Usually, my tank is already standing in one spot, so I don't have to worry about that slow. Another mystic in guild, never used to use Torpor on the tank, thought they shouldn't because of the slow. But rly, your tank shouldn't notice much of a difference just for 30 seconds. Rather have my tank alive and doing lwr dps, then dead

Bolster is probably one of my favorite spells as a mystic. For me, since I mainly raid, I usually use it on the necro when he lifeburns, but I do use it on the tank. Especially if it is a grp encounter, or a rly big mob. The same goes for grouping. AS others said, when you are about to fight a name, etc.

As for DPS. I rarely solo any more, And I have never tried out the melee spec. But when RoK comes out, I am thinking of making Melee spec one of my secondary lines that I can switch to when I like.

You were asking, what does the pet do exactly? I am assuming you are referring to Umbral Attendant. He is basically just a little bear, that follows you around for about 30 seconds. He does about a 150 heal, around every 5 seconds I think? I honestly, rarely use him, since I usually have a warden in my raid grp. But when I do solo, or am healing in a grp, he really comes in handy when you need the extra group heals. I like that he follows you, kinda bummed that circle doesn't ( for defiler ) lol . I hope that I have helped a little, although I feel a little bit of what I said is a repeat. =)

Vyxxen - 70 mystic Guk " LCN " ( aka La Cosa Nostra )

Just hit 65 on my mystic and LOVE bolster.

I do a lot of soling myself and here is my setup. I have the CA line of AA's of course, as well as the full Agi line with 8 pts to melee crit chance. Next I have the str line but only down to aura of haste where again I have 8 pts. This gives me 100% crit and 16% haste when my pet is up. I typically leave the pet out of cambat and just have him as a visual buff that follows me around. Even grouped he adds 16% haste to everyone so I find it pretty handy. Next I work down the Sta line to get the increase chance to double attack on melee. Right now there arent enough pts to be able to get it maxed at 8 pts but in another couple of weeks there will be (ROK ups the limit to 70 per AA page) This line also gives you an extra attack in the form of a shield bash that stuns and interrupts. Combine all of that with a nice large dmg range 2h weapon and you can do some nice DPS.

For soloing, I usually pre-ward myself then pull with an attack speed debuff or dps debuff spell. Next I get off the 2 CA DOT's (using an HO) then follow up with the remaining melee skills I have. If I cant get off another ward before they do some dmg I typically hit Torpor on myself then hit my single ward. With a total of 6 melee attacks from the AA lines I have it doesnt take long for one of them to pop up again.

In groups I just use Torpor to slow the tank down so that I can follow him without getting lost Seriously though, wards + torpor = solid tactic for keeping the tank up without having to dump heal after heal at them.

Oberon is useful but I find the situations where I really want to use it are limited. Because it puts me in a stun state I cannot react to anything else going on in the fight. Since I am spec'ed for melee I tend to use my wards as armor and off tank adds while I am healing the main tank. If there is a second healer then I focus on DPS and debuffs and just throw out group wards while my attacks are recharging.

As for Bolster, well, I just got it last night and havent had a chance to really give it a workout but I can see it staying on my main hotbar

All in all I would say your betrayal has taken you from a healer/caster class to a healer/melee class, and IMO one that can solo quite well and play a versatile role in groups.

I just like to cover stuff that can be easily overlooked. If you end up getting the end ability called Ancestry from EOF buff line, having that casted on you then summoning the dog will increase his ward proc rate as well. Also, since INT effects the DOT portion of the melee CA's, you shouldn't ignore it completely.Oh INT also effects the ancient spell called slothful spirit that auto-fires 3 times with dmg & pwr drainon spells,ca's from mobs. It's pretty fun to watch casters damaging themselves with a loud thunk.Since mystics get Aura vision with which you can see who's healer or mage typeamong the group of mobs, it's fun to play with that one.

I just raided for the first time last night (yes, just returned to the game) with the Combat AA spec'ed out . . . I was hitting 700 DPS on some encounters, with one instance of 885 DPS. I was also the second leading healer on the raid, falling behind the MT group Defiler but ahead of the MT group Templar. Is it enough DPS to be a threat to a Scout? No, not at all, but it is enough DPS to make solo'ing a LOT less painful. Also good on raids to light a fire under some under-performing DPS players. If you do less damage than the Mystic, you are doing it WRONG.This with my Mystic at 65 AA's. Once he caps out his AA's, he'll probably add a bit more DPS. Mystic DPS is no joke. We won't be mistaken for a true DPS class at a raid, but we won't be the butt of jokes anymore either.

For a solo, melee spec'd Mystic there are a few items you really *need* to get (to maximize):Tunic of Shadowed Songs - Obelisk of Blight - Dmg ProcRing of Light from Darkness - Obelisk of Blight - Heal and Dmg ProcPlanar Orb of the Wanderer - Planar Orb Collection Reward - Melee based ProcCrown of Enlightenment - Sanctum of Scalebord (Exarch Urilz) - Stun procPristine Imbued Acrylia Ring of Strength - Crafted - DPS Mod ProcWith Ancestry buff the procs on these hit much more frequently and with the heal proc and stun proc add a significant level of survivability.Plus you want a haste item, Cloak of Flames from the Heritage quest or Darkened Gauntlets from Dhampyre in Castle Mistmoore are two good options.Oh and make sure you max out the Bear Form AA, the proc that gives (back) to our self buff is a significant source of dmg. When you're solo the berserker buff from final AGI ability will probably always be on, however when you're not taking the hits, using the Canni hat to help proc that helps a bit too.Its fair to say Bandit's dps numbers roughly are achievable whenever you're not primarily focused on healing, the dmg shield procs solo make up for the group buff/debuffs you'd lose. Mine are a bit higher but I've got raid gear that doesn't apply here.and welcome back, Banditman.
