Solved this problem.

Had to turn off UAC in vista.

At least the launchpad works now...... for how long, and if the game will patch up to latest is content for another post maybe!?

SOE needs to resolve Vista issues ASAP! I might be willing to turn off UAC and fiddle with compatibility options, but there are lots that simply wont tolerate an application not working correctly.

I think it's more of a Vista problem than a SOE problem.

Vista views the patching as bad since it is modifying a file in the Programs directory and kills the download. It should prompt you asking if you are really sure you want to do that like it does for most things if UAC is turned on.

Otherwise EQ2 runs fine on my Vista machine once I turned off UAC. Ok, it runs as well as anything else does in Vista.

If you don't what to turn off the UAC(and who wouldn't?), you can also turn on Admin Rights(as you did) and then set it to XP SP2 compatability mode. This is how I got it to work in the beginning(I wanted the UAC on at frist, now I disspise it).

Personally I give up. Iv tried for 2 days, got no tech help from Sony and iv had this problem all 4 times iv played this game. Im done with SoE. Maybe in the past it was worth my time to monkey around with their games(just to find out that the games were still unbalanced and crap), but now we have WoW, City of Heroes, DAoC and so many other options with Tabula Rasa, Conan etc etc all on the way. Its just not worth it with so many options to waste my time on a game that even the developers refuse to support.
