I'm a bit new to EQ2. I've been reading on the forums about the tactics and theories of Proper Paladinhood, and I am finding a lot of solid advice. The age old MMO principles of build for damage to level up and hold aggro abound. However... almost all of this advice is given in the shorthand that experienced players of EQ2 understand. I've been playing MMOs since the beta test of the original EQ, so I've got a good grasp of the over all concepts, but I don't know anything about the abbreviations, or how to build a character here. Also, because I'm new to EQ2, I'm broke, so please keep that in mind that I can't twink myself. Can someone specifically explain to me how to build a Paladin for DPS in the early levels? Can someone tell me the specific AA names, and possibly explain rationales for buying them along with advantageous build progressions? Can someone tell me the specific places to hunt at various levels while soloing as a Paladin? Can someone specifically explain how to use our Paladin abilities to best advantage when soloing, Can someone tell me specifically what gear to be looking for and where to find it?Thanks for answering all of these questions.

not to hand hold you or anything (if you don't explore, you won't learn what you can and/or can't do).

AAs

KoS AAs. Agility line, STA line and INT line. 4 in the first ability, 4 in the second ability and 8 in the third ability. This will take you to 49 AAs spent. Put the final point where YOU think it will do the most good. Some put it in the 4th STA line ability, others may put a point in heal crit. Again, 1 point isn't going to make and/or break a build at that point.

EoF AAs. Wrath and Hero line. Wraith is DPS and this tied with the 3rd ability from the int line above will really up your dps. Off of your wrath line, pick up the augments to your procs. Hero line is straight down (no real choice here) to your block AA.

As for places to hunt, the game is sooooooo much different from when I leveled, that I couldn't even pretend to tell you where to hunt with your paladin. Though I do recommend finding places with undead and using your ability to hit undead with more dps while leveling. There are some good undead out near stormhold as well as near RoV when you get to the right levels.

As for gear, it is simple, find upgrades Ok, seriously. For armor, you want gear that has good mitigation and is close to your level. For the first 20 levels, the crap you get from drops is plenty. At 20, do your AQs (they start in QH to a guy named Ian), these will carry you into your 30s. In your thirties, there is some quested armor that will do you just fine and in your forties, start considering mastercrafted Vangaurd for your gear until you hit in your 60s, when you will want to start looking for legendary gear (and in the late 60s, you can grab your legendary EoF class gear). Weapons, you want to find weapons that are good damage weapons. A 2 hander for soloing and a 1hd/shield for grouping. specifics aren't important, just find good ones and use them until you get better ones. Good weapons with a longer delay + higher multiple of damage (ie, 1-100 with a delay of 4 is better than 19-57 weapon with a delay of 3) due to the way melee crits work.

really consider your upgrades, you will find times when a MC item isn't as good as a treasured. and you might have to do some work by hand to determine which is better (ie, I just replaced a MC ring with a treasured one and not only got some better stats, but more health)

first off. if i were to redo a paladin from the start i would have to pick the dwarf race, they get a few more hitpoints, and strength after its all said and done......

my paladin was my main for a long time... i picked a high elf, and now i wish i would have picked a dwarf, some say it doesnt matter, but it will in the end after all the character traits are added up. dwarf race gets more hitpoints, strength , and +defense skill, all of what you want in a tank, and also for your crafting i would pick an alchemist, you would be able to make your own spells and int, and str potions, and all the other potions and elixirs... trust me, it would be worth it to be an alchy... and i would also go transmuter.. which i am, i just need to level up more in my transmuting...

concentrate on your aa's, i think i would lock at about every ten levels to build aa's through questing and discovery points, this will pay off for you in the long run when your in t7 with 90 or so aa's or even topped off at the 100 points...

i've actually been thinking of rolling another paladin and making him a dwarf this time around, just to see what differences there are in the character traits..

i have a dwarf beserker and i like the dwarf beserker alot, be interesting to see a dwarf paladin....
