I'm having thoughts at trying PvP, but fear that starting now from nothing is a bit ... risky. Not about being killed, I know other are here for that, but with the differences of lvl, gear, etc I might encounter with a brand new character ...

Right or wrong ?

Are you willing to invest some time & effort? Do you accept that making money to get the things you need is important? Are you going to be able to handle getting ganked about 15 seconds after you hit 10th level? How about being griefed by some no0b with nothing better to do than try to make himself feel better by beating on somebody less geared? Ready to accept that what may cut it for PvE doesn't cut it in PvP? If you can handle those things, you'll be fine. Pick a server, pick a side, and contact somebody from the adopt-a-new-player thread for answers to questions you may have. Also, some guilds may have a minimum level requirement that you may have to hit before joining, but that wouldn't necessarily preclude people from helping you out until you hit the level that you can get the invite. Players on both sides on both servers will help you get yourself established. Just don't be afraid to ask for help or answers, and you'll get farther faster. Check out some of the guides on the PvP forums, too.

Now is a great time to roll a new toon, imo.

Many of the new alts started when the Arasai / Neriak / DLW release came out have leveled out of the newbie range. So most of the new players are on the same playing field. Mind you, I wrote “most” – there are still a bunch of toons out there who have a major AA advantage in tier 2, so sometimes you will get totally overwhelmed, even 1 v 1.

Given the above, prices on the broker in Tier 2 are way down from what they were earlier this summer.

The AA cap of 1.5x per level, while not helpful in Tier 2 is pretty helpful in Tier 3 and above.

XP debt is totally disabled on pvp servers so you don’t have to waste your time running into the guards to stay competitive any more.

The 10-20 zones are more playable now, the quests have been streamlined, so its fairly easy to progress.

The pvp ruleset has been radically changed, and is arguably easier to grok now (although I have a few quibbles about the rules, grr).

Classes are more balanced. Although I would still give the overall edge to scouts and druids -- mages, fighters and other healers are more competitive now.

With the pending release of RoK the previous newbie zones will be easier to run through for quests and AA.

Good luck with your decision!
Personally, it's great. And I'm not one of the 3 on Xerox's list I'm the newbie who doesn't care which way about t2, because honestly.. I'm TradeSkilling and collecting AA to be prepared for it, to ease the pain just a bit, although I expect to die a bit anyways. But it's just one stop along the road. Preperation is apparently the key.

If you do make up your mind to try Naggy out and your looking for a small guild you might want to check out "Legion of Fiends". Me and a friend just started a guild and are looking for like minded individuals to fill our ranks. We are going to always be small so everyone feels like somebody.

Send Pewkin or Legion a /tell in game or PM me with any questions you might have. Hope to talk to you soon

Each tier you get better geared, and find more competitive fights. If you want to play the T2 twink'lock game, you really need to first level beyond that range with a money making class or lock exp at 8 and harvest to make money.

Harvesting can finance your account pretty well. Harvesting + Crafting can make you rich in a few weeks. I harvest/craft part time and I've probably netted 10 plat in the month I've been here actively.

The most frustrating aspect for new players imo, is trying to get your AA's in T2. You don't want to just bypass all of those quest, but you'll be constantly hounded by full groups and solo stealthers, all in god mode for T2. Alot of these are guys that leveled to 70, banked 10 plat and twinked a pvp suited class to level 15. Don't pay them any mind, just move to the next quest if they are camping the one you are currently on(and they will be). Its not unusual to die 10 times a night in these levels, so don't think you suck or can't pvp because it has nothing to do with pvp. Its extremely lame, but believe me you will be rewarded if you just tolerate it for a short while. Once you gear up and start amassing some achievment, either in T2 or later if you level beyond the twinks, you'll find pvp more surrounds common quest grounds and harvesting zones. There is much less ganking and alot more good competition.

Oh yeah last thing, don't come to Nagafen as a new player if things like K/D ratio and Infamy mean the world to you. Unless you buy plat and have your hand held by other T2 twinks, you are going to die alot. I think I died probably 30 times before returning the favor. Now at level 35 with 30 AA's and a mix of MC/HC/Legendary gear, I'm probably winning 1 out of 3 fights(not counting 6 v 1's of course). In T2, Half of the time your literally dead before you can hit a key, steam rolled by an fg of twinked, level locked players while trying to complete some quest for AA in T2.
