This is probably the wrong place, but since I am a necro what the hell. I played at launch...yes way way back. Stopped until KoS came out and tried again and stopped after a few months. Well I get this little thing in the mail that says SOE wants me to try again for a few weeks.

So far...I love my little bug necromancer. Thew new zones with Neriak are great. My problem is with pricing. I am trying to upgrade my spells and [Removed for Content] neaer want to die. The prices are insane. Summon minion, a level one spell, people want 37 gold and up for the crafted adept 3's? Are people smoking crack or has the economy completely shifted to creame filled twinkies?

I watched this happen with warcraft...the exspansion came out, making money there is easy. They deck out thier twinks with insane money and ruin the game for new (or returning) players.

I looked into crafting the spell but the bronze cluster is 13 gold (while most other rares of the same tier are 20 to 50 silver).

Is it just me? Am I just complaining about something minor or am I missing something? Is it this bad for all the classes? Please help!

There's a twinking problem, but there's also the Transmuting problem. Transmuters need items in order to skill up, and because of this it drives up the price of most goods. If you want to save money on Adept 3s, harvest the rares yourself, then hire a Sage. Any extra rares and other harvestables you get that you don't want/use/need, sell them for a huge profit.

The class is too popular that's why. It's no longer a transmuting problem as most Adept 1 book from other least played class sell for around 1 gold. But when you play one of the most popular class, expect books to be expensive.

/sigh

Of course that would be the issue.....maybe I will level my shadowknight or roll a bruiser or monk. A little bug bruiser might be fun. Use them to make cash to pay for my necro....

rare loam is still more expensive than rare gems for ad3. And the same is possibly true for the rare metal if it is not xegonit.

First off, NEVER upgrade 1-10 spells/gear, it's just not worth it. Even the worst player on earth could be out of that tier in about 2 hours.

Next, if you are on a PVE server 90% of the time you will be fine with adept 1's, especially if you group. If you want to solo, then yes, upgrading with be more important. Same goes for gear if on PVE.

If you do want/need to solo alot then look at the various guides on the forums here about making cash and upgrading. To boil it down though, harvest x10. Make money selling rares. Craft if you want, money can be made there too. If you can put together a reliable group (within a guild?!?) you can farm names for masters/fabled to sell/use also.

Now the transition...

If you are on PVP, then gear and spell upgrades are nearly critical, at least to have some fun. But again upgrading tier 1 spells is a waste. Especially because if you level-lock a necro before you get Lifetap, you are just asking for misery.

Upgrading from 11-19, and so on, can be worth it, depending on what you intend to do with the necro and whether or not you are on PVP.

Please post up your likelycommon playstyle (solo/group/raid) and what type of server you are on for more specific advice.

Necro's do have issues, but overall I find them a fun and versatile class. Nec's can be all out DPS, psuedo-tank, back up healer and even decent crowd control in some zones. All depends on your AA spec and what you enjoy.

I solo a lot! I am not anti-social...just not the greatest group person. I play PvE. Crafting an be fun but I don't want to spend all day doing it. I chose to be able to make my own spell scrolls as a craft, but now I kind of feel like that may have been a mistake. Will I be able to make anything useful for myself? I know in the past that was nearly impossible...

I wasn't really concerned about upgrading tier 1 spells...I did upgrade them just for crafting exp but it wasn't a horrible big deal. What had me concerned/upset was the price.....34+ gold for a tier one spell....I just thought it was crazy. Must be like warcraft where people are charging 4 or 5 gold for green level 12 items and 50 60 gold for blue's. Everyone is trying to make a buck off of the twinks, and yes I am guilty of it. The few rares I did find I priced at %10 less than the lowest price but still very inflated. I am trying to figure out what crafted items sell at maybe start making those......

Anyway thank you everyone for your help, any more advice is apreciated.

Since you're starting out freesh, why not start looking at becoming a Scholar? It takes no time at all to level up a Scholar at the starting levels plus Neriak has a ton of places to gather up the materials for a Scholar. I wouldn't waste any money on buying any Adept-IIIs or Masters at those levels. So you have a choice of;1) Throwing away a ton of plat on spells that you'll outgrow in an evening or two.2) Buy Adept-I books for a few gold each.3) Start the Scholar tradeskill so you can make APP-IV and your own Adept-IIIs from easily found rares in the Neriak mining nodes. Personally I would go with (3) since it's a good idea to start raising all your gathering skills. You'll come across quests that will require you to mine/fish/harvest/chop later in your teens and twenties.

Try starting a character on the Test server. I think you would be very pleasantly surprised how well it would seem to fit with your playstyle.

Test?? Really??? Do they do periodic wipes? I used to Test on Anarchy Online and they would always threaten us with wipes but only did it once....

Just join a large guild and make friends with your guild sage. Harvest the rares yourself (doesnt take long on lower Teirs - much higher drop rate) and the guild sage will probably make you the lower Teir adept III's free of charge - mine did. Total cost = zero.Which spells to AD3 first ? - some very good stickies on this forum that cover this. Personally I would do pets/nukes/heals/the rest - but your playstyle may require a different order.Harvest shinies and put em on broker instead of scribing them yourself. Several of the Cracked bones sell for stupid money, just run around CL until you find them and you can just buy all the rares you need anyway. If you find the spot where they spawn frequently.. and no! I am not telling where ... then you can probably make 3-5 plat in a couple of hours. Each tier has its rare shinies. Especially the EOF zones in which each collection has a rare one needed for a lvl 70 "Expert" collection. Each of those rare ones goes for over a plat on my server. You don't NEED to have Master spells until you hit the top Teir (T7 ATM - soon to be T8, but to be honest I always tried to get master pet spells - if only because the master ones usually look so much better than the AD3 ones

I dont see big issue here. As a necromancer be prepared that your masters gonna cost ALOT , so make some Sage friends , or look for reasonably priced adept 3 on a market. Your only 2 must haves adept 3 is your tank pet and your defensive stance. Put 5 points in tank pet EOF line (one that gives u 10% damage absorption forgot what its called) Then put all your points to get tainted heals eof aa line . After u do all that killing named for loot will not be an issue and u gonna start making some decent money . U can start farming even before u get there upgrade def stance, tank pet and heal and u good to go. When u get FD it gonna be even easier -))

good simple advice from shogun here. follow that and you cant go too far wrong. if you on splitpaw i am happy to make any you need if you provide the rare. adepts one is really ok as you level so fast as necro no way you can keep up with cost up upgrading armour jewelry and spells! once you hit end game then time to splash out on adept 3 and masters. only exception is adept 3 tank pet and defensive stance will make your life easier - but not essential - you will level fast enough with adept one spells. suggest join guild - may have adepts in guild bank sitting there unused!

Hellstone

I have to admit, I twink my Necro. At lvl 33 all his pets are ad3 and both stances are master. I Do solo a lot and I am working on getting Tainted Heals. Right now my aa is trailing my lvl. I worked a Fury to 71 so I mail plat to my Necro now and then. I'm looking for 32 MC cloth next. Over the weekend I went with a small group to FG and tore the place up. I got some good advice by a 61 Necro that mentored to help a guildmate. (Two Necro's in a group, how could you lose in FG.) That group got me 90% of a level and one aa. I guess Twinking is just another playstyle. I worked the hard way to get the Fury up so it's nice to be able to share the wealth to help my alt.
