So.. I am new to Eq2. Played a few classes up to mid 30's on blue servers- and got bored.Ive been reading quite a bit about PvP but Im still confused on one thing. You harvest rares (from fallen logs, ore, dens, etc???).Then with those rares, you make mastercrafted items utilizing a tradeskill, right? How do I know what rares I need? How do I know what tradeskill I need? I'm lost. I'm currently thinking of either rolling a berserker, warlock, or bruiser. Can't decide lol. Any thoughts on that while we are here? lol

Welcome to the jungle.

You won't be bored with the game on a pvp server. Frustrated yes, bored no.

You will find that leveling up to the mid 30's is not so easy here. You will be killed over and over and over again by groups of folks that you will have no hope of defending yourself against until you get grouped and geared-up... and even then, you will be killed often. As long as you understand and accept that, you will in all likelyhood enjoy the pvp servers more than pve.

Your question reguarding harvesting and tradeskilling is perhaps best answered by reading a tradeskill guide on the top of the tradeskill forum. I might suggest one thing, however. To make good money, you need to produce items that sell to the largest number of characters. Everyone wears armor, but you will not be able to make armor for all characters. The jewelry slots are common to everyone however... and jewelers make scout upgrades. Scouts are a very popular class, so the market for the jewler's products is very good.

As for playability of a class in pvp, well... you really should read some of the answers to that popular question on this forum and the server that you plan to play on. First and foremost, you should pick a class that just seems fun for you. Keep in mind, however that some classes are just not very well suited for solo-play in pvp, so if you plan to roll solo choose accordingly... and consider yourself warned.

The best defence against death in pvp is to be grouped. If you want to group, I would suggest finding a class that is needed in the group situation. Tanks are underated and actually bring a great deal of benifit to a group (and there aren't as many here as there are in pve). Healers are always welcome in a group also. If you roll a pure caster class, expect to die more frequentlly and be the first on your enemy's "to-kill" list.

One last thought: I have noticed that many new players don't group very often and come to the forums to complain (loudly) about getting ganked repeatedly. Please don't do that. Stay out of the most populated zones as much as possible and get some serious coin from your tradeskill sales as soon as you can so you can gear up.

Oh... you might be proactive and buy a new keyboard and mouse now, because the others might be rendered useless due to the frustration that you will experience learning to play the pvp way.

lol thanks for the reply. I've ready many of the "omg what I died, how can this be?" posts. I understand I will die.I understand I will die alot. I understand safety in numbers.I understand leveling is a slow process in PvP.I understand I need to take the time to gear up to be successful.I understand that even when I G&G (gear and group? <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img mce_tsrc=" />" /&gt, I am going to die. Alot. I understand that above all, I'm going to have fun. But you know what? I can live with that. Blue servers are boring. Period.Okay, maybe I asked the class selection the wrong way lol. Which classes should I avoid?I should first say, I will probably solo pvp until I find a guild. However, I have every intention of eventually Exiling, however... what are the downfalls to Exile besides the fact it is harder to group, and more people to kill you? Somewhere I read that Exiles don't get faction-specific PvP armor. Is this true?.. I love the thrill of being outnumbered, having to avoid Q's and Freep's. Mmm, maybe a masochist? Plus.. more targets for me as well! There are just so many classes that seem entertaining to me, so I've narrowed it down by archetype. This is my top list for each class.Fighter: BerserkerHealer: Inquisitor Mage: Warlock Scout: AssassinNarrowing it down, I probably won't play a Scout. Although the solo-survivability of them is awesome and thus the end result being a mass pop of them, I want something different. I know, I'll be passing up on the most popular strategy I have read on these forums, T&E (Track&Evac lol, acronyms are fun) So that leaves with me...Warlock.A class that seems a bit exciting, good dps. Survivability, not so sure.. A kind of "hrmph" decision. Inquisitor.I've read Templar > Inquisitor in PvP. Is this true? What is an Inquisitor's role in PvP? Heal, buff/debuff, dmg? Mixture?I don't mind healing at all, but as I said, I will be doing some solo, do they output enough dps or have the utility to do so?And of course a plate wearer, hurray.Berserker.Berserker, I like 2h weapons. Period. I enjoy having big giant long sticks to slam into people. Sexual innuendo? Yes. Making up for lack of personal growth? Probably. I like the survivability and ability for this class. Taunts are awesome for group PvP. Wear plate, look cool, do dmg, nice. Out of those 3, based on solo ability, survivability, dps, and Exile-friendly, which would you recommend?P.S. This forum name is obviously a blue character I once had. Is there any way I can change this? I go to Change Persona at the top, but it only lets me select this name. I have other characters, but none of them are an option.(edited for title change)

I have other characters, but none of them are an option.(edited for title change)
My inquisitor have only ever lost to one templar. An exceptionally well played orange con (Im pretty sure he would have killed me even as a yellow con, the way he handled me). I've taken down templars 14 levels above me on that same inqy. Yes, inquisitors with a battle cleric spec will do enough dps to kill most classes. Battle clerics also pretty much always don a big twohander for some smashing results. For soloing those three, I'd pick the inquisitor or the warlock. both are ok solo classes. Endgame I'd probably favor inqy due to the high survivability towards scouts, other healers and tanks. Mages are a tad nasty, but still doable if you dont stop to heal.

Sounds like you are going to love it here.

It's fairly clear that you are going Freeport (at first) though, so I'm done giving advice to you.

Kidding aside, I don't have much experience with the classes that you mentioned, so I won't pretend that I do and fill you with a bunch of BS and un-educated opinions.

I do know this however... Exiles have a very hard row to hoe. It ain't easy being exiled. You had better find some like-minded friends on the freep side before you exile together or else you will find yourself alone and afraid to leave the Haven. It is true (at the moment, at least) that exiled don't get pvp gear. To be honest, though... you probably shouldn't base your decisions on the availabily of pvp gear. The system is borked. By the time a city-factioned character has enough clout with their chosen city, they probably have better gear anyway.

There are a few who choose the hard road and exile early. Hats off to them. The majority seem to level to 70 before going exiled because exiled gain a slight advantange in the end-game because all of the classes are available (more tools) to raid the end-game epics and get the best loot. City factioned folks have a harder time raiding because they don't have the abilities of every class at their disposal.

Nevermind that now... your focus should be on surviving past T2.

Someone else with knowlege of the classes this guy mentioned should pick up this thread now.... I'll just wait for him to level up or exile so I can be responsible for breaking his keyboard.

I don't even have a character over lvl 14 and i LOVE the pvp in this game, and every aspect of pve. And with my given k:d for a new player i think i grasped it quite well.

Barrog wrote:
So basically..I've narrowed it down to SK, Inq, or Berserker.Hm.
The sk is a powerful solo class, its also a good tank for pve, but because of the way they hold aggro in pve, they suck for main tanks in pvp. they are really good offtanks in pvp groups though. they have a skill that is VERY useful for dropping a key target when they are low on health but jsut wont die. And they can get the heat of the MT for short periods of time while not taxing the healer because of their ability to self heal. Not to mention, sks have the best temporary buff in the game. For pvp tanking, go with a guardian. they are the very best at that.

Rolled an Inquisitor Agnox@NagafenPretty excited to get rollin on a PVP server I've got all my harvesting up to 20 so far, just trying to decide on a TS. Any advice/thoughts?I used to find Harvesting/Crafting boring.. but.. seeing as it is needed for self-sufficiency in PVP, it's actually kind of... fun?

Welcome to PvP. You seem like you're expecting the worst, which is a good thing. I'm going to suggest contacting the Norath Pirates, they're on the evil side and willing to help new players with learning the ins & outs of PvP.

I had no idea crafting was that intricate. I thought it was more like a puzzle, A + B + C = XIt's actually kind of fun lol, a mini game of sort. After reading some guides, I was making pristine quality plate and weapons like a champ.Well, a lvl 7 Artisan champ
