SOE activated my account until 11/04. Appraently they gave me all the expansions as well, so I decided to log onto my old wizard, he is level 59. After looking over the spells and clearing up his hotbars, I noticed his AAxp, which he has 0 points since I had quit before KoS or EoF came out. Realizing that it was going to be such a huge pain in the [Removed for Content] to try to catch up the AA points to be anywhere near a wizard of my level, I decided to start over again. I rolled a gnome wiz, did the isle, everything seemed ok. A lot of spell changes have gone in from back when I leveled my main. Once I got to Qeynos I noticed something quite horrible. Our root spell has been obliterated. It has a 10 second hold time if I read it correctly. Not only that but even con, non arrow mobs were destroying me. I busted up to level 12 Scholar and tricked myself out with Ap4's, that helped some but I still got my [Removed for Content] handed to me if I was jumped. It almost seems like they have beefed up mobs, or something. I got 2 AA points by level 12 (familiar and Magi Shield). I have been trying to play him but he feels extremely weak compared to how I remember the wizard class. Granted I don't think we were ever where we should have been, but he is a lot frailer than I expected. Any advice? Is there some new tactic that we have to use now? I seemed to do ok as long as I start the fight and root actually lands, but everytime root is resisted or I am agroed on, I loose like 85% of the time.

wizard in EQ2 is very different than i had pictured it, but then again my main in EQ1 was a wiz, so i grew up on roots that stuck, snare and the ability to quad kite and when i raided, to tank lol. i really want to play a wiz in EQ2, so i am slowly working my way out of my old habits and expectations, and being able to root mobs and gate everywhere is one of them. one thing i have noticed is that root has to be at least adept 1... im not normally lucky enough to have a adept 3 or better root, so i deal with what i can get. my biggest issue is my resist rate, which is way higher than should be acceptable. im prolly going to take the stamina line for the disruption boost in the second to last ability and see if that helps. things have definately changed so all i can suggest is be patient, stick with it if you really like the class. SoE's goal seems to be to force people to drag their heals until lvl 50+ before it becomes worth it.

What your seeing is now normal. When the game first came out I started a wizard and things were kinda smooth for the most part. When the fey were introduced last year I started a new wizard. In the time between the games release and say, last year (November), our roots and resists rates were drastically changed. Our old roots use to last longer and our group root line use to be unbreakable. The roots have had their durations cut in half (or more) and the unbreakable portion of our second root is now gone.Resist rates also went way up at low levels, then were brought down a bit, but still remain pretty high. Unlike the warlock class, we do not have a self disruption buff (how fair is that?). Leveling up my new wizard the resists started to get better around level 18, but never really goes away. The battlemage AA line really helps with all casting skills. Once your new wizard gets back up in levels, it becomes less of a problem and our roots last about 45 seconds again. For solo play, I suggest the following AA setup (even great for survivability in groups as well):Stamina line: for mitigation, casting skills and manashieldAgility line: for faster casting and spell recasts10 ranks into magi's shieldingFire and Ice line (id suggest fire first at lower levels)Of course, things change at higher levels, specially since you'll have more AA points.I'm currently sitting at 422 disruption (with no outside buffs) and I have to say, I might get resisted once or twice a night, it's pretty rare now. With manashield, there are times I don't even worry about rooting (even 69^^^s). So yea, things do get better in time, but it dose take time. :-/~ 70 Wizard

I don't really play a Wizard so I won't comment on that portion... but I will comment on your decision to reroll in general.

Yes, at Lv 59 you're way behind the AA bell curve of what a Wizard rolled after the expansions would have, however, as someone with experience coming back to a character who was somewhat "up there in levels" with no AA...

You will have a MUCH easier time simply AA grinding than you will trying to level that new Wizard up if you are primarily solo.

You didn't need AA's to get to Lv 59, or any level, and you don't NEED them now... especially if you're not raiding. You can solo all the way to Lv 70 and not have a single AA to show for it. Would it be easier and faster with AA's? Sure... I'm just pointing out you don't NEED AA's.

There's a thread in the tips and tricks with something like 800+ discovery xp location points... which also yield AA's... so go get your ports, (available at Lv 25), get a mount if you don't already have one, and start exploring.

You can easily grind out green con quests to get started on your AA's, or just ask someone in a lower zone who's LFG to group with to mentor down to for quests that are grey to you. Considering you'd be helping them tremendously... mentored down characters are amazingly, and BEAUTIFULLY overpowered so you'll help them tear through quests quickly... plus they get a 5% xp bonus for having you mentored down to them.

Just my 2 cp... but unless you want to experience the low end game again, (and there's nothing wrong with that, hehehe), you will find a lot less heartache and trouble working the AA's up on your Lv 59 Wizzy rather than trying to reroll a Wizzy from scratch just to get AA's.

Just something to consider.

Hope it helps, best of luck to you, and welcome back to what I, and many others, feel is a tremendously improved EQII <--- overall... somethings went backwards <resistratecoughresistrate> but overall a much more enjoyable game.

Take care.
