is there a difference between pci express and pci express x16?

<p>getting a new vid card tomorrow and took notice that there is pci express and pci express x16 cards.</p><p>i have a dell dimension, 8400.</p><p>my current card is a gforce 6800 GTO 256mb, i looked on the dell site and it dont say if thats a x16 or a reg pci express.</p>

<p>Most high end GFX Cards use the PCIe x16 slot.  The x2, x4, x8, x16 slots are diffrent size so you don't need to worry about putting it into the wrong slot.  I believe that the smaller cards will work in the larger slots also.</p>
