from the FAQ:
Q. What's the difference between a Conjurer and Necromancer?

A. There are five big differences between the classes.

First, Conjurers are better then us at AoE, we are much better at single target damage. The necromancers spells are very focused on single target damage, the conjurers get almost all AoE type spells. Necro's get a couple, they just aren't as good.

Second, conjurers get some very good group damage buffs... they get a fireshield (a spell that does damage when the recipient is hit) spell and a proc (process, essentially a spell that has a chance to "process" or cast when attacking) quite early and of very good quality.

Third, conjurers are elemental (fire, cold) based, necromancers are noxious based (disease specifically). This isn't always important though it is helpful when grouping with a sorcerer. Wizards are elemental based like the conji's, so their debuffs stack up helping both classes do more damage... Warlocks are noxious based, just like us, helping both do more damage.

Fourth, conjurers get more status effecting abilities like stifles and stuns. We get health transfers and revivication.

Fifth, necro's get less pet specific special abilities. A conjurer can instantly revive a dead pet, ward a pet against damage and put a massive damage buff on the pet only come 50 while we get a small pet only haste. This point really isn't a big deal but it is a difference.

this looks like alot more "pos" to the conjurer. are necro weaker?

just briefly, necro is a really fun class as you get such a spread of spells and abiltities you dont have to root and blast all the time. we are good solo class esp once you get tainted heal in the AA lines which means you can keep tank pet alive in places you just couldnt even go with out it. i love it and am never bored.

Hellstone

1) AA is your alternate advancement. Whenever you complete valid quests or kill a named for the first time, your AA exp will go up. Every time you get a full level of AA, you have a point to spend on alternate advancement.

2) Have not noticed any difference in getting a group with my necro than when i'm playing any other class. Good thing about the necro, though, is that if you can't find a group there's still a lot you can do on your own.

3) Can't answer that one.

4) Yes, invis spell at 18 (I think it is)

5) Not sure, sorry.

6) DPS is decent. Once again I think it depends a lot on the player. That's a whole different bag of worms, though, and there's a lot about it on these forums already. You can definately build a DPS spec with your AA if that's what turns you on.

7) I 2-box a lot so I never really need to rely on groups. This comes down to personal preference, though. I love my necro for many reasons, my assassin for many reasons, my bard for just as many, the list goes on.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have fun! Don't worry too much about the numbers, and take all the whining posts here with a grain of salt.

Enchanters can take down the toughest mobs in the game prettymuch, as long as they dont have CC immunities. brawlers are better at running down dungeons to kill the nameds. wizards are faster at single target mobs. A dps specced necro is a high roller. you wont see any big nukes though. Yours is a steady and reliable dps.

Necro and inquisitor. Necro because I can take on some pretty crazy [Removed for Content], inquisitor, for the same reason, with the added benefit of being a juggernaught in pvp.

Not at all, Axx. Hit L to view your AA tree and exp. You should also see messages when you complete quests or kill named saying you've earned some.

You don't start making AA until level 10 and it takes a little while to catch up with your regular level. Personally I turn off combat exp a lot and focus on AA, just because its nice to have a more powerful character earlier on, but there's strong opposition on that way of thinking. I've made the rush to the level cap before, so I prefer to chill and explore a bit more on my alts.

Starting to think about AA at 28 isn't going to [Removed for Content] you, though. Try not to think about that stuff too much... if it's top-end raiding that you're worried about qualifying for, then you still have more than enough time to work on it.

If you are really worried about being as powerful as you can for your level... turn off combat exp for a while and go farm some named and do lots of quests, you'll catch up in no time.

Just make sure you get the quest first. Also collections are a huge boost in your AA advancement. Even the two low level Seashell and Birdfeather colllections that you put together from Newbie Island can give you a tone of AA experience if you hand it it after L.10. You can always save your money and create a new alt on the Island to gather up the feathers and shells and place them in your shared bank slot. A few evening ago I started up a Necro alt at Neriak. Now at L.15 it has 8AA and I moved over to the FreePort/CommonLands so I can cleanup on all the L.10 quests. I did make one mistake. I guess I forgot to disable my adventure XP at one point when I wanted to check to see how close I was in leveling. I think that happened from L.13->L.14. Oh well.
