For those of us that still remember...As I attempt to level a transmuter, I can't help but wonder:Which is more aggrivating:(1) making ink(2) leveling transmutingI think it is a very tough call. For those that are wondering, inks were removed from crafting long ago. They used to be the primary component needed for making spells.-Leucippus

Leveling a transmuter. At least making ink made your materials last a lot longer and they were much more accessible.

Transmuting is extremely aggravating and much more costly than ink making was.

With ink making you nearly always got the product you wanted and it was a predictable number of steps to a item you could use in making a spell (and thus, also, a predicable amount of fuel and fuel cost). With transmuting.. it's rolling dice. While ink making was tedious, transmuting is.. umm.. unpredictable at best.

Nothing aggravated me more than ink. I'd transmute T1 to skill 1000 rather than ever make ink again.

Watching paint dry is more fun than transmuting. Watching dry paint fade, peel, and fall off is more fun than transmuting. Transmuting has a higher bps rating (brain cells killed per second) than prime-time television.

At least with inks there were tradeskill reactions to counter.

Whysprr

Dirge 70 / Jeweler 70 / Transmuter 340something -- look, I didn't say I was smart, OK?

Transmuting is worse making inks pre-LU24, but better than making arrows pre-LU24.

In order1.Ink2.Ink3.Ink4.Ink5. Ink6.Ink7.Ink8.Ink9.Ink...99. Arrows(pre-LU24)100. TransmutingTransmuting has short cuts and cheap outs and on a time for time basis is significantly faster than making inks ever was. Once you're done with transmuting to level, you're done with it vs. every order for a skill requiring inks-even if pre-made(prices tended to make buying from others a non-profit/loss activity). There's also the point that at least every transmuting combine has the chance for a skill up vs. grey inks.Arrows were annoying for the run around, combines and the yield and would have taken number one except all my epic 5 min+ combine fights took place at the alchemy table giving ink(and subs in general) a special place in my heart. Calthine wrote:
Nothing aggravated me more than ink.
Ink was the worst... ever...

I'm up to 265 on transmuting and actually like it.

I do it when I want something mindless to do. And since when doing T1 and T2 combines pristine doesn't matter I can just sit there hitting the buttons occasionally while reading a book.

At least a non- pristine in transmuting still means something. Every single combine for inks had to be pristine meaning you had to pay attention more than just about about any other combine set.

Transmuting is way easier than making Ink back in the "old days".

And, yet I would still rather go back to making ink. Why? Because IT SOLD!

Every freaking tier my inks sold. T1 - T5 (at the time)

You can't give away some of the transmuting adorns. And, the raws are only really popular in T7 (soon to move to T8 popularity).

Loads of people don't want to waste good plat on an adorn they are going to blow through in 7 days.

So, loads of Transmuters go bankrupt or at least go into the Red as far as loss of profits are concerned, while getting up to T7 (soon to be T8 )

I hate having recipes that don't SELL! It's pointless. It's like being a .. a .. WEAPONSMITH! *nods*

----

Have I mentioned that we have a whole 'nother Tier of PAIN coming soon? *sigh* .. Bloody 'ell I still have another 20 points to finish before I am maxed, even.

I was just thinking about launch-era bows. Not only did you have to level up, make all the subs, etc, but you had to find a weaponsmith to make you hilts....
