I am just coming from WoW and I am trying to find a good fun PvP class. I made a swash and a monk with only enough time, due to wife and kids, to lvl one of them before the exp comes out. Any advice???

Main question I want to know is how Monks are or do in a PvP situation? (solo) Thats the only thing keeping me back from being a monk. I have played many types of rogues so I know very well how they are in a pvp situations. I would like something new and being new to this game I want some peoples opinion on a cool pvp/solo lvling class. So please post lol!!!

I've always heard monks were pretty good in PvP.. but I'm not sure. I've played both WoW and EQ2 to endgame and beyond.. and tbh, I don't think you're gonna get the same experiance pvping here as you do in WoW if that's what you're looking for. EQ2 is geared for PvE

Be honest im just filling with EQ2 until WAR hits. I was in DAOC from launch until WoW and love RvR. Just looking for some fun and I am sick of WoW. Plus this game, with the solo content, fits my schedule perfectly. Im on a PvP server and I want a class that can handle his own.

It's been a while since I played my monk but I always remember my monk being pretty good in PvP. High avoidance and high DPS means they can hold their own vs melee classes, and beat down caster/healer classes in no time at all. They have a number of stuns, can heal themselves, can feign death, can invis(with a power cost). Are of course very week to spells, so can be toast if they get rooted (and the root sticks) as they rely on being up close and personal for their DPS.Monk is a pretty good choice for solo PvP, although Scouts do have track which is very useful.

From what I have read, both Swashys and Monks are formidable foes in PvP.Although head-to-head, Swashys tear us up because we beat ourselves to death on them.Hopefully, a PvP Monk will answer your questions in this thread. Also, I would assume you posted this question in the Swashy forums to get their opinions as well as the "PvP Discussions" forum.

Monks are up there with the best solo classes due to their versatility/survivability. They're a lot of fun to play =)And to one of the above posters, I prefer the EQ2 pvp to WoW's any day. The only factor with EQII being a PvE game primarily is that they have issues with balance sometimes. But overall, the pvp is much more intense, complex, and... fun, heh.

Yeah, a monk can hold their own in PvP. I'd still say the swashbuckler has an edge, because of evac, track and higher dps. When you engage someone, it is only a matter of time before someone else jumps in. A swashie can use track to see if anyone else is nearby and evac if necessary. Better DPS is also invaluable for a soloist - because the sooner the fight is over, the better it is. Then there is less chance for other people to jump in and kill you. I'd go with the swashbuckler if I could choose again, but monks are decent enough too if you prefer a fighter.

Monks are a good jack-of-all-trades. We have good avoidance against mellee attacks, decent protection against magic. We have many "tricks up our sleeves"... Wind Walk, Feign Death, etc., and we deal out good damage.
