I'm a level 9 crafter and a level 70 adventurer. I read that some aspects of transmuting are based on EITHER my crafting skill OR my adventure skill - whichever is higher.

I have lots of old armor and things laying around that could be broken down and I need some Illusory Powder.

All I want is the powder to give to a transmuter - I don't care about making adornments.

Would it be practical for me to raise my crafting skill to level 10 and then transmute these items to get the Illusory Powder or is there something I'm missing?

The thing you're missing is that Transmuting is its own skill line. You would need to raise your skill in transmuting to the point you can transmute an item that gives illusionary powder (300+). You don't need -any- tradeskill ability (your level 9 artisan is fine) to start transmuting. All you need to do is to talk to the transmuting trainer. At that point you will be able to break down (transmute, munge, melt, etc) items that are level 1 to 5. You would need to transmute a lot of stuff and make a lot of adornments (skill past 100 can only be increased by making transmuter adornments) to get your skill to 300+.

There's quite a bit that you are missing, sadly. The "either adventuring or crafting level" determines a) if you can learn transmuting, and b) the maximum skill that you can reach. It has no bearing on what level of items you can begin transmuting right off the bat. You start transmuting as a newbie, regardless, and newbie items are all you can break down until you skill up.In order to transmute tier 7 items for a chance at illusionary powder, you would need to grind your transmuting up almost 300 points. VERY not worth it if you just want to hand powder over to a transmuter. You would be better off farming T7 mobs for adepts and treasured gear, hand those to the transmuter in question, and have them break them down for you to get the powder.http://www.mboards.eqtraders.com/eq...read.php?t=6502

OK, thanks for the replies!

And also for the suggestion to hand the items to the transmuter! That would work.

Hi Rijacki! We've hunted together before. You might know me better as Meghnad the Necromancer.

Well met and good luck. Taking up transmuting, though, could make paying a transmuter since you would know the pain *chuckle*
