SK vs. Necro for soloing named mobs and instance named bossesI am currently 30 and I go into Fallen Gate and solo a number of the named bosses in that instance. Takes alot of finessing and juggling things, but overall it works out nicely. One of my friends is a Necro, he said he can do the same thing at that level and up to 70, he soloes the Nest and other places, and says that in about 10 to 20 levels I am not going to be able to solo named mobs in dungeons anymore, and will have trouble doing less then even con world based names. The only reason I have any thought in believing him is that he has a 70 SK as well as his 70 Necro. He bashes on the SK and slathers his Necro with praise. Maybe he is just jaded, but man he really makes me want to spend more time leveling my Necro, but so far I feel my SK is better.I want to know if I am going to hit a roadblock in my soloing of dungeon named mobs in a few levels, and then have problems with world based named mobs a bit later then that.He also says that Necros don't cost much as they don't need to keep their gear up as much as SK but they do need to keep their spells in top order.I solo 99% of my play time, and will probably keep doing that for a while. I want to spend most of my time leveling a character that can give me the most flexbility and ability to smash named mobs both in the world and in instances solo.If anyone here has any experience playing a SK and a Necro up through the levels I would really appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thanks!!

We can solo just fine up to 70, he's either smoking really good crack or just sucks at playing an SK.

Success at soloing named mobs depends on the zone, the mob you're fighting, your gear and spell quality, and you knowledge of which buttons to click when. If you're wearing treasured or mastercrafted armor and using Adept I spells, then no, you aren't going to be killing many named mobs. However, at lvl 70, my SK can pretty much go and do what he wants, within reason. I've soloed a good bit of HoF, as well as most of Nest, albeit very, very carefully, and dying a few times in the process.

SK are fine soloers. Say this three times.

Although I am only a level 46 SK, I have no problem soloing. I can take on as many as 6 green, non-heroic at one time and even several blue mobs at one time. I can also solo heroic too. I do have touble soloing more than one heroic tripple arrow up mobs but so does other top soloing classes.

Necros probably solo a bit better BUT if the necro gets aggroed, they are a dead necro. I, on the other hand, welcome most aggor. In fact, I seek it out.

It is a bit more expensive for a SK since you need to upgrade, about every 5 levels or so, your armor, weapon and especially spells and combat arts. However, as you level, you will usually have plenty of money. In addition, you can be a trademen ( such as alchemist) and provide many of your own combat arts or you can be an armoror and provide much of your armor.

I have soloed a great deal since most folks in my guild are very high end raiders. For the most part, I have no trouble soloing and don't usually have master spells. I use mostly apprentice IV with a few Adept for the more used spells especially blessing and taunt.

Also, here are two secrets for a fighter class. I use to envy all of the mage classes' utility spells such as invisibilty, under water breathing and being able to SOW themselves till I found out that I can buy totems fairly cheaply that will accomplish the same things.

Secondly, When you buy or make gear, always look to see that there is an imbued or proc on the gear. We LOVE procs, which usually do either a lot of damage or heal you. It doesn't have to be master gear, as some have noted. Just get a proc on your shield, weapon and some armor, get additional stuff that addes damage or procs to gear and you will be quite fine.

As for named, I usually only go after named that is green to me. Trying to kill blue heroic named or higher will be very tough without the top gear. However, there are plenty of named that will be green to you eventually. Also, I have no trouble geting AA points. I am level 46 and have 48 AA points already.

Trust me: Shadow knights can solo quite well with our heavy armor, shield, and feign death. We even get a spell that will teleport you and your group to a safe haven in the zone. If you put at least 21-26 points into Reaver AAs and 16 points into intell AA, you will be a soloing god!

Sirmorte, Level 46 Shadow Knight

Permafrost server

House of Rising Phoenix Guild

Hell, thats gonna be what you will be looking for. they also solo nameds fine, and once you get your spells and gear upgraded, they are one of the stronger soloers around. One thing that is wrong though, is that necros die whent hey get aggro. Nope, they dont. They have all the tools they could wish for to not die to roaming adds. and ripping aggro of their tank pet aint an issue if you spec for soloing. That being said, my necro solos stronger mobs, and faster single target mobs than my sk. My sk though, handles multiple mobs way better than my necro.

SK are fine solers, but would have to give the edge to Necros.

Both classes want to have their abilities up to at least adept III, but SKs are much more gear dependant vs a necro. Yeah a necro wants good gear and it helps, but a SK has to have the best gear he can get his hands on.

It is the ability to heal and deal out damage that makes SK strong.

While I play both they are relatively low level right now (under 35 for both). I like the necro to play when I want to go on auto-pilot and chat with the guild while playing. The SK can do everything the necro can, but you need to focus... so it takes a little more effort but I'm finding you can definitely squeeze the same kills out of a SK that you can with a necro. Stuff I would never dream of with my wizzy solo, that's for sure.

agree with most posts here. Soloing several greens, even at lvl 31. The myriad of disease based DoT and nuke spells, plus healing over time and pet, in addition to shield slam, boot, etc, with harm touch as a last resort, make the SK pretty attractive, IMO.

IMO with both of them in same tier equipment and all masters... the necro would be able to solo better prolly. But the SK would still be a F-ing machine too.In general the pet classes are VERY good solo. But SK are vicious solo too. My bud has a 70 SK in EoF Legendary with all 100AA. I am constantly impressed with how he performs. He tanks, he DPSs, he has great buffs, and the feign death has saved my butt countless times. A well played SK is a thing of beautiful mayhem.

currently i play a 70/100 necro with master tank pet and all pet AAs maxed and the healing AAs etc etc.as a soloer i can say i can do some amazing things that i dont think an SK can do when it comes to some specific fights.i also have a monk and a 70 conj as well and i will soon be starting an SK when RoK comes out and its Literally cost me HUNDREDS more in plat to twink up masters and gear for when i make him.in fact i have a thread on which twink item is best http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...59but basically either one solos well from what i understand but with a necro you only pay to upgrade spells .as for which you prefur thats up to your game style.now if you are here trying to learn which class is best to farm sellable items then you probably wont have the best needed gear as an SK because you wont group with anyone and since you will be more gear dependant thats gonna suck.

It cost me less than 20p to master 62+....If you go and buy all your fabled gear for 68+ I guess that's a good way to blow plat...

A fair amount of this thread is getting derailed by general solo play. The OP is quite specific about named mobs. I'm curious as well about how a SK does with them at high levels.

We solo named relatively easy, and there is nothing in this game that one class can solo that an SK cannot. We are solid soloers and while a Chanter and possibly Sorceror can outsolo us, we aren't far behind and can solo everything they can.

i'd say we have to have to MUCH better gear in order to do it. and a lot more master spells.

if only there were some named mobs that were actually a group of 10+ individual creatures. we'd have the edge on just about every class there

Masters yes, gear no. I was soloing all of PoA back in KoS in half Xegonite.

If I were you i'd level both, they're both fun to play. Necro is the way to go though if all you want is to be able to solo named. I love my SK though, but he's very equipment dependent. On my necro I was soloing ^^^ named one or two levels lower than me at lvl 40 with 21 aas into tainted heals and lvl 12 mastercrafted, any named that were 4+ lvls lower than me were no challege at all.

INSTANT complete heal once per day owns...
